The End of the Road for Blir

Postby Frau_Blucher » Thu Aug 07, 2008 8:59 am

The rumors you may have heard are true. I am leaving the NWO.

Unfortunately, my absence will only be from September 11th through the 15th to attend the English countryside affair known as The End of the Road Festival. This is to be held at the remote and beautiful Larmer Tree Gardens outside of rustic Salisbury:

I am told that it is quite the earthy affair with some devoutly indie bands, druidic singalongs, much vegetarian cuisine, communal networking on travel and camping, and the recycling of tents and sleeping bags for the needy. Okay, honestly...whatever.

I'm mostly geeked for the acts themselves like Mercury Rev, Robyn Hitchcock, Low, Laura Marling, Pyramids, The Young Republic, Brakes, Calexico, Richard Hawley, Conor Oberst, The Constantines, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, and...um...heh...British Sea Power.

There is an interesting side note to this story. A Jonathan Richman and The Modern Lovers cover band is also attending, called The Modern Ovens. Recalling the great Lovers' song "Ice Cream Man", I contacted The Cream Man ice cream company of Long Beach California in search of some of their fanciful retro stickers to distribute amongst the crowd.

As fate would have it, they are huge music fans who had yearned to attend and promote at the festival. Upon hearing my intentions, they not only agreed to send over a box of their stickers but also asked if I had any photography equipment and a desire to write up a review. Uh...yes. They are therefore comp'ing my festival ticket and even providing me with a press pass for full run of the place. Dude! Sweet!

You can imagine that I can now hardly wait for the upcoming events...thus this premature diarrhea of the mouth about it a full month before the festival even takes place. If any UK folks here had thought of attending, I encourage you to do it...there's an extended network of very nice people that I'll be meeting up with. In any case, expect a full accounting of my big adventure in due time. [8D]

Excellent!

Maybe you could arrange for an exclusive interview of British Sea Power for the NWO[;)]

Damn, thought they were true!!![:o)]

Jealous does not even begin to describe it. If you tell me you threw in an EPL game I am going to be beside myself.

Dude, that sounds fun!

Damn, I was ready to sit back and enjoy a multi-page flame war infused with self-absorbed lamentations and juvenile demonizations of our society as a whole that would have lasted for days! I had my hopes all up high. Just think of the pity party threads and new secret gossip clubs it would have spawned! You shouldn't do that to a mod! [;)]

Seriously, it sounds like a crackin' good time you lucky bastard you. I'm sure the alcoholic libations will be in abundance [}:)] [:o)] Hey, have a couple of lagers for us [^]

You scared me Blir but I'm glad it's temporary. Enjoy what can only turn out to be a great time!

Sorry that Coop41 didn't finish his thought. That EPL game MUST include Manchester United and you MUST root for the Red Devils!

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

I don't have a big problem with that. A friend of mine played in the Tottenham Hotspur youth system as a lad and Aston Villa is coached by Martin O'Neill (ex-Celtic) who is a great coach.

As long as you don't go to root for Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea, we'll remain friends.

Hmm, that sounds really great Blir. I'd love to go. Are you still taking OPW (other peoples wives) to see really cool bands? [;)][:D]

I'm just glad someone picked up on my joke! I was checking this thread every hour to see if anyone got my joke. You have to feel sorry for my fellow workers because I speak in riddles and sarcasm all day long. The few that get me find it hysterical. (for the special people-salisbury steak!)
