Do illegal immigrants do jobs Americans won't do?

If they do, how much longer will they be able to? With the way things are going people here may have to work jobs that they thought were beneath them before. People will take whatever work they can get.

Speaking from the Arizona perspective, most definitely, especially when it's 110 degrees. It's funny, there is a huge push to cleanse the state of illegals but as soon as the economy turned south and the construction jobs declined, the number of illegals decreased considerably.

Same here is Las Vegas. You certainly never see white (well, it's true!) people standing in front of Home Depot hoping for work when it's 110 degrees in the shade.

People talk a big game here about wanting them to leave, but I think if they'd really think about it for a minute, they probably would change their minds. The construction trades, the service work in the casinos--that's where the illegals work, and I feel like a whole bunch of the natives feel that work is somehow beneath them. They want all the fruits of someone else's labor.

Employers don't want to pay shit.

For example in 1989 I was making $7.50 an hour working a fast food job. In today's money that is $13.00.

I had friends in construction (non-union), drywall/painting/framing to be specific, that made between $11-$15 dollars an hour, In today's money that's $19-$26. Some were buying homes.

I had many friends that worked in restaurants making good money, same goes for landscaping.

It's not that Americans won't do these jobs, it's that they won't do them for the wages that are being offered, if there were no illegal's then wages would be up in these industries. Americans would do the jobs.

I want my fellow Americans to be paid a fair wage, even if it means I have to pay a little more.

I would concede that Americans don't want to do agricultural work we should allow work visas for this industry (which I believe we already do).

To answer the question: No. Illegal aliens aren't any more hardworking than US residents and citizens. Just like SwampThing stated, employers won't pay, so any rational person wouldn't do the work. Illegal aliens then take on some of these jobs, but at the cost of all taxpayers - watch the illegal aliens as they drive down the quality of life of the city they decide to invade (from the hospitals, schools, and other community resources down to the jails). It all turns to shit.

Your statement was politically incorrect, but that made it all the more accurate. They are one of the reasons for wages being driven down. That's a fact, not an opinion. They defend themselves by accusing that such positions are race-based, and in some cases they are right. But much of the time it's because they just want to hijack the debate by putting their opponents instantly on the defensive -- since they have no real defense.

Americans like me want ORDER on the BORDER (hey, that's a potential slogan). They want our laws respected. They want our national sovereignty respected. They don't want jobs taken away or salaries pushed down because of the cheaper competition. They don't want Spanish translations everywhere, right down to our food labels and PSAs -- even television commercials on ENGLISH language stations. They don't want families like the Shaws and Bolognas being forever ruined because some punk illegally here from Honduras or Mexico decides he has to prove his gang mettle -- and then the sanctuary cities in question don't lift a finger to stop it or help the families that are hurt. Don't even get me started on the National Council of the Race. Talk about racism.

Immigrants -- legal and not -- do do some of the work many Americans won't -- according to information provided to me by Sen Feinstein. So for those businesses, an ORDERLY guest worker program should be instituted. But even then, to qualify, Americans must be given the opportunity to apply first. And if the immigrant so much as jay-walks, he's outta here. Sounds draconian, but we need to get a handle on this and to put a hatchet into that cultural disease known as political correctness. It is not racist to want our country to remain a country, not some foreigner's civil right (while their home countries would put you into one of their prisons for 1-6 months for being illegally in THEIR country).

Sorry for the rant. Living out here in Lost Angeles has made me feel this all too keenly. My own neighborhood has gang tagging (and not by a black or a white gang) and a huge chunk of the public signage is in Spanish. Even some members of the L.A. city council are learning Spanish to better communicate with their constituents. AAAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!! Melting pot my ass.

That's bs, they do jobs for less money than Americans would. Corporations love illegal aliens because they can use them for cheap labor, stealing Americans jobs and making more profit. Keep up the current pace and we'll be the United States of Mexico!

Illegal immigrants do the jobs snooty (read: alot) of Americans won't do. But trust me, with things heading south so quicly, Americans are gonna be wanting those jobs pretty soon. I pretty much feel like if we kicked out the illegals our economy would improve, not immediately, but it would.
