<br>Doug, must be synchronicity that you brought this up! I'm starting a charitable project in Orange County called "Play It Forward" where I'm looking to find talented high school students in bands (or solo) with original material and give them a chance to be recorded professionally and compiled on a CD. I then plan on putting on a live show with local bands as well as some of the high school musicians in order to raise money for a music scholarship + other giveaways. I'm looking for talent across multiple genres: rock, pop, hip hop, electronic/DJ, jazz.

I welcome any input or assistance from anyone in the L.A. or O.C. area here on the board. I hope to put the event on in late June or early July (not necessarily the 4th).

I'll post a more informative thread shortly. I've got lots of ideas but I welcome other suggestions.

As far as some things I do to help out:

I do every other Friday at my son's classroom, and run the computer lab for his class, I serve on two non-profit boards (Campaign for Social Justice and Los Angeles Refugee Forum), and help out at our local Food Bank/Pantry--boy there has just been a steady increase in the amount of folks being served. They have run out of food a few weeks in a row, and even when I'm not helping out there, I bring them my "plastic" bags to use instead of recycling them.

Always looking for more ways to help and give...

Like Glok (cool stuff you are doing Glok!) I would be happy to help too. I'm no longer in the area but maybe I can help from here with engineering, editing or audio forensics or something. Let me know if I can!

I used to donate to the local SPCA through a payroll deduction, but had to stop it as $$$ were getting too tight.

Instead I have been taking cans of dog food, blankets, sheets & towels over every couple of months. When my old dog died in October I took all his prescription food & medication over too. I can't really do much more than that, but it's important to me to support that organization.

I'm sure this was a gem!

In addition to the usual stuff (buying extra groceries and dropping them in the food bank box on the way out, etc), I donate my time at a fledgling New Wave site in dire need of wit, musical content and quality moderation.

I give over half of my annual earned income to an interconnected local, state and national organization that then distributes it to themselves and an ever growing segment of the population. I continue to do this even though this "charitable" conglomerate continually erodes my rights and invades my privacy. Yes, I'm a giver!

@craig: how noble of you [:D] Can I pleeeeease join this organization as well?

No, honestly I am a sponsor for a child in South America and I support NGOs (campact, avaaz) and in Germany we have an organization (called Weisser Ring) that helps victims of violence.

For a few years I have been giving free guitar/bass lessons to some local kids in my area. I have to do a lot of wheeling & dealing for instruments & gear, mostly I get things in trade, since the lessons are free.
I take in broken used gear and my fun is the repair, then the kids have guitars to use for lessons.
We also have frequently dontated to the local Thrift Shop & Goodwill, but these days with wife just out of cancer surgery we're more on the other end, now looking for help with bills, etc.
Once we're caught up, hopefully we'll be able to give more, again! [;)]
