Phrases we can do without...

How about the overuse and mostly improper use of the term[b] "literally" [/b]by people who should know better- those who consider their expertise to be communicating in one form of media or another.

Ex: "He literally blew up at me!"

No.

Unless he was a suicide bomber and his head popped like a pimple and left grey matter on the ceiling, He FIGURATIVELY blew up at you.

I see this used all the time by people that are trying so desperately to impart passion to their message, they retard the meaning.

Not so much a phrase, but one of the more vomit-inducing to come out of the recent political season was the whole Main Street vs. Wall Street comparisons. "What we should be doing is listening to the folks on Main Street, not Wall Street." "Joe six-pack" references were a close second.[xx(]

Some more phrase malaise:
"Say no more"
"Having said that..."
Addressing a group of women as "you guys"
"Let the chips fall where they may"
"Play their cards right"
