Where is the love for "Ashes to Ashes"? Is it that people don't consider it a new wave song, or that they just don't like it? To me it is a fantastic song, even after hundreds of listens, and historically important for the new romantic movement. I can't believe that "The Promise" and "Video Killed The Radio Star" would be considered better songs.

Hmm. Stylistically, I would argue the "Scary Monsters" whole album is definitely in the new wave: the synth, the pop hooks, the experimentalism, the occasional weirdness, the emphasis on fashion. I know it is not proof but the new romantics cd, which has a pretty good selection, has two cuts from the album:

Bowie was definitely not a new act (not in the "new wave of bands" in that sense), but then again Roxy Music released their first album in 1972 and most everyone considers their later stuff new wave.
