Transfering albums to cds

Gee, I feel so inferior...

I just run a direct line from my tape monitor jack off my receiver into my sound card. I then use the free Audiograbber program (http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net) to rip tracks - there is an automatic track separater, but as mentioned it's too sensitive (even with the sensitivity adjustor) for vinyl. But since it's analog and you have to listen to the whole track, I just click and separate them myself. I don't have any fancy cleaning programs, but that's OK, I don't mind the hiss an pop of old cherished LPs. That said, I only transfer to .wav files (1 to 1 digital transfer), because I still have not found an .mp3 program that doesn't cause the sonic highs and lows to suffer in compression. And truthfully, I just can't get the same appreciation from an .mp3 file as I can get from a vinyl LP right off the turntable, and at least the .wav files preserves that for me in whole.

I use a Terratec USB phono preamp. It comes with software for recording and cleaning up your sound.
You just plug the turntable or cassette deck into it, plug it into a USB port and record.
You end up with a large WAV file which I break up and turn into MP3's with Soundforge.
Alternatively you can just burn the WAV file to a CD using the software provided in concert with whatever burning program you use.

The Terratec cost me $100 and I'm loving converting all my vinyl now.

And G. Gone, try dBPowerAmp. It uses LAME to convert WAV files to MP3's and at 256kps I've found them to be pretty damned good.

Audacity will also convert wav to mp3, and it's free...

you just have to go get lame_enc.dll, you can find that here...

I have just bought the Sony RCD-W500C. I can not get an anaolog input. Anyone else had this problem and solved it?
