Quintessential New Wave Song

Although Let Me Go is my favorite song on this list I'd have to vote for Rock Lobster for a song that captures "the essence" of New Wave. It's off beat, not too serious,yet personifies that era perfectly.

I'd have to say B-Movie's "Nowhere Girl" as well ... listening to that song on my CD player and volume on max always puts me in the mood and back at square one. I find that song to be a stress reliever of the sorts actually [:p]

I think Gary Numan "Cars" was a boring overplayed song . Just my opinion .

I think MAGAZINE is the band that captured the direction of New Wave. When you listen to their songs and looked at them live...when you see what music cane after/from Magazine (and Ultravox), I think this band is capturing it all. Although there has not been one particular song being 'classical' New Wave, may be Numan's Cars Is a logical choice indeed.

For that matter: Are Friends Electrics, seems a much more logical choice as it came out earlier and was more known aswell in The Netherlands. I like the song 'Cars' from Numan, but that came after 'Electric'. I don't see any other candidates, so I didn't vote.
(Naming Kim Wilde 'New Wave' is unthinkable in Europe for example. New Wave of what...? Silly popsy sing along tunes may be)

while I like all of these, none would personally make my top 100 list. They are good songs, just for me, not what I think of as the new wave for my personal list, and some, not new wave at all, IMO. Just my opinion, that's all.
