I fear that my reply was taken the wrong way. What I meant was that I was not really into anything until punk/New Wave came along, therefor I wasn't really exposed to sexism in music. From the beginning of my interest in music my perception was that it was always (or most of the time) a level playing field. It's one of the many many things that attracted me to the scene. I freely admit I'm a straight white guy but even as a 13 or 14 year old I remember appreciating the fact that the bands I was discovering weren't made up solely of straight white guys. Women, people of color, gay all held the same ground as the straight white men. I didn't see that happening in the rock scene with bands like Kansas, Foreigner, BTO, et al.

In Ollie's book diversity = interesting.

Amazingly. I was thinking about this very topic just last night. I was watching a Kate Bush film clip and reflecting on how some female artists from the 80's really were / are fantastic.

Lene Lovich.

The original girls in the Banarama weren't to bad
Kylie Minogue and her sister Dani were alright
