I took my kid to see the movie Sky High (not a bad little movie, actually) and was kind of annoyed that every song in it was an 80s cover. I probably would have thought this was kinda neat about 5 years ago but I think the whole new wave covers thing is getting played out.
There's a good podcast called Coverville that's all....you guessed it....covers. On it I heard a Depeche Mode cover from the guy who used to front Timbuk 3. In fact, his entire album was DM covers. Why, oh why?

I could be way behind the times, but I recently heard a cover of Eurythmics "Sweet Dreams" by Benny Bennassi. It is pretty good if you like techno...

Towa Tei on his Flash album, did a pretty good version of my sharona. pretty much a note for note remake with a more harder edged electro feel.

Which brings me to my question: which New Wave hit is primed to be the next Top 40 single for a burgeoning artist?

I refuse to lisen to No Doubt's cover of "It's My Life" -- I saw part of the video once, and heard a snipit of it on the radio and flipped the station -- Talk Talk's original is PERFECTION and why would I want to listen to an inferior copy, it's just insulting.

I generally don't like listening to covers![xx(]- unless it's just a tribute done on live concerts.

Oh well...
