I 100% agree with you on Poly Styrene! Germ Free Adolescents is one of my all-times because while the Sex Pistols were punks who challenged the establishment with visual and their behavior and vitriol, X-Ray Spex are really underrated for articulating the punk movement through Poly's lyrics. I think it's phenomenal that she's was a young teenager who was so profound and accurate with her commentary. Translucence was a great effort simply because she had moved beyond her position as a punk icon so easily. Too bad Conscious Consumer was the disappointment it was. Not a bad record, but why would you want Faulkner to read you a Barney story? And why hasn't Gods & Goddesses made it's way to disc yet?

Hey, what about Lene Lovich?

Love Lene. But the only thing that's really kept me being into Lene as much as I've been into others is that she always seemed the be trying too hard to be "Lene". Know what I mean? Her obscurity and oddness just seemed a little to contrived and labored to me, like she playing the part of otherworldly performance artist a little too much. Whereas someone like Nina Hagen seems completely organic, as does someone like Mari Wilson. But I do love Lene's music. I have her Rhino re-issues and would LOVE to have No Man's Land on disc, as well.
