I don't think it matters in the song - it never struck me as being about Lisa or who she likes.
For me, the song represents small town teen life, when there's nothing to do but hang around in the firestone parking lot and debate who likes who, and why they aren't hanging out with you anymore. It also speaks of how small these teenager's world is and how the bigger issues in the world really don't matter to this particular group.
I guess I like it so much because it takes me right back to being 14 or 15 and hanging out and having no clue about Iran hostages, Ethiopia, gas shortages, or whatever was happening in the mid-70's, and if I did - no one was going to listen to some kid's opinion. Besides, it was much more relevant and exciting to talk about the other kids in school.
