African history is chock full of stories of the evil acts of black Africans and China's current attitude towards human rights might be one of its most lenient in their history. This is so off mark. I'm pretty sure that Homo sapiens of all strains are all pretty damned genetically disposed to mass killings. The white man had has his share but can't hold a torch to Mao's Cultural Revolution which is estimated to have killed almost 50 MILLION people. Cambodians, Japanese, Turks, Rwandans, and Sudanese have added millions more to the tally. You could say that Hispanics essentially wiped out the entire Central and South American native population and cultures. Alright, so we took care of El Norte. The common bond is that we had the technology and used it. Anyone who's had the technology first has used it. Specifics are academic nitpicking.

Edison - I think by definition, a conspiracy theory means that a person or group in power is trying to erase or hold down a marginalized group.

Since white men appear to be in power in America - then it makes sense that conspiracy theories would target them as villans trying to scrub the world clean of blacks, native americans and who ever else.

We're familiar with a lot of the ones that hutter originally posted because they are essentially perpetuated by people in this country.

I wonder if other countries have the same race issues that we do - the black vs. white thing.

I think discussing conspiracy theories at the college level is prefectly all right as long as it's known to be a theory and not passed as fact.

Most of the white american population were "stone cold stupid" in many ways until civil rights started to make headway. To think that there were college educated people who really believed in their heart of hearts that whites were a superior race. What kind of professors were teaching in those days!!!!

I'll be honest, a co worker of mine recently did an HIV workshop at one of the colleges north of me. A professor of Public Health attended the workshop and kept harping on how HIV was created to kill black people. It really disturbed me because this guy is teaching future public health workers & passing this off as true. What are they going to bring out of his classes and into the community? Unfortunatly, if a professor says it - then a bunch of the people in the class will take it as gospel.

I deal with people who believe this stuff everyday - it's really hard for me to keep my head cool around it.

Tuskegee is another thing that comes up every week. It seems that one side says that people were intentionally infected and the other side says no. I wish I had a better way to communicate it. Honestly, it wasn't hard to find thousands of people in the 1930's who had syphillis - we didn't need to intentionally infect them. The conspiracy of it takes away from the fact that it was a hideous thing that happened. But, I totally understand why people buy into conspiracy theories, Tuskegee is the foundation of all of them.
