I'd be a lot more impressed if he didn't have teams of world-renowned doctors watching his every move and a pile of divers waiting to rescue him if necessary.

Wonder how he would have done if he'd been sucker punched in the gut right before the stunt? Hmmmmmm. . .

[/quote]Not too good I suspect, though how would you get up there to sucker punch him. btw, I know Houdini was sucker punched, if that was the intent of your post.

Blane did hold his breath for over 7 minutes -- I'd like to see anyone here beat that.

Did he? He's an illusionist after all. The bit with the woman who's tooth he took out and then blew in her face and had it magically appear? Did'nt happen. It was a trick.

Yes, thanks, I was thinking of Houdini when I posted. And no, I wasn't suggesting that anyone should have sucker punched him prior to his stunt.

As far as anyone else here doing as well as he did, I wouldn't go so far as to say that there isn't anyone here who couldn't do as well as Blaine did. After all, it wasn't like Blaine just one day decided to hold his breath for the record. He trained for it and even lost 50 lbs. in preparation for his stunt. So, given the same time to prepare and the access to the same people who helped him train, there just may be someone at this website who could do as well.

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/09/arts/ ... yt&emc=rss
"...Nor did he set the world record for holding his breath, as he had hoped — a record set at 8 minutes and 58 seconds. Instead, he emerged from the tank, requiring oxygen after 7 minutes and 8 seconds..."

Well, just because you're on a diet doesn't mean you can't look at the menu. [;)]
