Here is the deal with JAPAN it is really hard to decide, because the vast range of the band. You really have to get the whole catalog to really understand what this band is all about.
In hind sight there are only three bands that walk in sacred ground in my eyes. The Clash, The Police and JAPAN. Once you listen you'll get the picture.

I started with "Quiet Life" and would recommend it. My second opinion would be "Orpheus" by David Sylvian.
