I don't know how big were "the too shy-shys" in the USA, but here in Europe they didn't even reach level enough to clean Duran Duran's shoes.[/quote]
Some bands should stay in the '80s and this is one of them, although Kajagoogoo really sped up their death warrant by booting 2 members in the span of 2 years and not replacing them with anybody. Especially since one of the booted members was Limahl -- who was apparently 80 or 90% of the reason people were buying their records.
FWIW, they were two-hit-wonders in the USA ("Hang on Now" floated around the bottom of the Hot 100, peaking at #78.) The UK hits, "Ooh to Be Ah," "Big Apple" and "The Lion's Mouth" weren't released. "Turn Your Back on Me" and "Shouldn't Do That" were, and flopped.
They had some good hooks and a couple good songs. Poor lyrics, but some good hooks and songs. Limahl could sort of carry a tune. But it took his solo career for me to realize what an absolutely shitty songwriter he was. His only listenable singles -- "The Neverending Story" and "Inside to Outside" -- were written by outside songwriters. The ones he penned himself were total junk. That includes "Only for Love," which was only a hit because of career momentum, not because it had anything going for it melodically.
