Bands you could just NEVER get into

The Fixx are actually my absolute favorite band. Seen them live 16 times, love every one of their albums (though they've laid their share of eggs). For some reason, I guess I expected to see them on other people's hit lists, but they haven't been mentioned (a good thing). I really gave The Jam a chance, and I actually like Town Called Malice, never had a problem with that tune. Everything else is just sort of 'blah' to me. It's not bad, it's just not the kind of music that really hooks me.

It's pretty crazy seeing bands like DM, The Cure, New Order, Boingo, Siouxsie, and The Smiths get dismissed here, but that's what this thread is all about, isn't it?

I'm on board for "I Just Can't Stop It" - great album from start to finish. That one back-to-back with The Specials first album is a fine way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

The Thompson Twinks- what people who thought they were cool and cutting edge listened to... once top 40 radio played it and made it "ok" and safe.

Frankie Goes To Hollywood. 1. Stupid name. 2. Bombastic, repetitive, abrasive, overplayed song, "Relax". 3. Even worse follow up- "Two Tribes". Thankfully bit the dust after that and faded quickly from view.

Tears For Fears after "The Hurting" album. Went from strikingly avant guard to easy listening pop drivel in one album. Didn't help that MTV played "Head Over Heels" every 1/2 hour for 3 freaking months.

Duran Duran - Why n' How?.. If "Cheese music" has a representative it'll be Duranski!!! Music just too fabricated, they try so hard to fit to mainstream. Red Hot Chili Peppers. Couldn't Flea just do an album of bass solos?
Thompson Twins. I own several of their albums, but have rarely said to myself, "boy I can't wait to hear "Into the Gap" today.."

There was a rumour at the time that they couldn't play their instruments and that their tracks are all the bits Trevor Horn joined together. Another rumour from the same period was when they played 'live', the musicians behind the curtain were the Blockheads, Ian Dury's band.
