I'm a shameless audio & gadget geek[:I][^][:I]
Still have my living room entertainment shrine to obsolete audio technology replete with the following: (Much of it mid '80s vintage)
B&O TX2 Linear Tracking TT w/B&O MMC 4 Cartridge
Thorens TD166 MkII TT w/Grado Cartridge
BSR MCD8050 Combo 6CD Changer / Auto Rev Cassette Deck all piped thru the following..
>Hafler DH 101 Preamp
>NAD 7140 Receiver Amp
>BSR EQ 3000 10 Band EQ
>BBE 422A Sonic Maximizer
>Pyramid PR-4700 Stereo Mixer
All of this plays thru a set of 1985 vintage Speakerlab Das-4 Tower speakers and a set of 1989 vintage Bose 301 Series II's
The rest of the house has a hodgepodge of various audio playback devices.
Florida Room- Cambridge Soundworks 820HD tabletop which channels my Sony portable CD player, Rio Karma mp3 player as well as streaming audio from my PC via a Logitech Stream Point Wireless DJ controller.
Kitchen- CBM ASP 777 self powered mini speakers which channel streaming PC audio via a Logitech Audio Anywhere wireless interface.
Bedroom- A set of Polk Powerport bookshelf speakers driven by a nifty TA2024 Class D powered micro amp that channels either PC, CD or mp3 player audio.
Audio from each of my 2 laptops is piped through Altec Lansing IM2 self powered mini speakers.
When entertaining outside I have a vintage set of Recoton F.R.E.D S.P.I. self powered loudspeakers for whatever audio source I have on hand.

I forgot to mention I've also got vintage Speakerlabs (from 1984). They still sound great!

Audiogon is indeed a great site. Audioasylum isn't bad either.
Always wanted to try Speakerlabs. I have a set of a/d/s 780's and a set of Bose 501's in storage. I like the Vandersteens the best though.

How do you like your Alons ? There use to be a high end store near me years ago that sold most of their line of loudspeakers.I lusted at several pairs I could never afford. Their large 3-way towers were just incredibly beautiful sounding speakers. Not to mention the equipment driving it. Really put a whole new meaning to high fidelity.
My speakers are bottom line junk and system mid fi at best.I had to enhance the speaker crossovers with better caps and resistors just to make them tolerable lol.

I love my Alons. In fact, they are my second pair. I have a pair of Alon 1's in the closet, until I get a bigger place.
My brother has some Vandersteen floor standers that I also love. It's hard to beat that open-baffle sound.

Never tried Alons. Have read good things though.
About the open-baffle design: For me, once I heard it I knew I could never go back to the traditional box speaker design again. The openness and soundstage continue to amaze me. The time coherence is a great aspect of these too. Next upgrade is a bigger amp.
