Come on America.Blondie,The Cars and Talking Heads.In my opinion the whole U.K new wave output doesn,t stack up to these three bands.And yes I voted for the good old U.S.A.

You are absolutely right about that! American punk, especially the hardcore/skater punk from back in the day, totally owned the genre.

Sheesh, I voted Brit and I figured it might win out but whoa - 97% vs. 3%? I would say the Brits were bigger risk takers plus they really embraced the synthesizer which differentiated the music so very much. Add to that the fashions and hair styles they sported, and you have a very seductive formula for New Wave cool-ness [8D]

That "emerging american punk scene", "punk attitude" mentioned above are precisely what i dislike..... Green Day YUCK.
The obscure british New Wave is the best music i have heard so far. There are so many fantastic tunes, and so many superb rare british artists that we've got to discover.
My vote goes for the UK.

i grew up during the 80's and still there are a lot of UK, European indie new wave bands that has to be discovered and have never been heard and that's the mystery that keeps the music different and unique, further UK, European new wave bands make music for the love of art while most american new wave bands and music scenes make music for the love of money and fame, big difference.

But my favourite bands are mostly british... and not only new wave, also from other times.

I wish I could have lived in Manchester back in the late 70s- 80s (Joy Division, New Order, Echo and the bunnymen, The Stones Roses, Happy Mondays). [:D]

It just may be my impression having spent some time there recently but I find the UK music scene to be a bit more diverse and more people passionate about music in general, as opposed to the more Clear Channel/Walmartized culture in the US.

If only it wasn't so complicated to immigrate. [8D]
