Skoochies Reminiscing

Do you remember me now ("One Arm DJ")? Yes it was Tayhya that lived right next to me Lisa is the oldest. Tell them hello and email me. I am now dedicated my life to help the less fortunes in Vietnam, particularly PWD. I started the Group Health Medical Mission to Vienam in 1993. 11 groups have been to VN to work with Hospitals and medical schools. I started VN Hydrocephalus project with help from GHC docs, Integra L-S and Medtronic we have saved over 320 children so far. I will start an IT Training center for PWD in Hanoi real soon (my second favorite job beside DJing) with backing from US and IT companies.

No. This family lived in Parkland. Can you imagine how fun it was for us, the half-Iranian family and the Vietnamese-Black family living in Parkland? I think Parkland was where they shot the pilot for Cops. It was, and might still be, shirtless drunks repairing cars on their lawns blaming commies and minorities for all of their problems. Oh, the good old days.

We had a falling out. He had a rather active imagination. Made up lots of hurtful stories about people. I confronted him. He no likey me any more.

I do have a good Winferd story. He went to the Depeche Mode 101 concert with my siblings and I at the Rose Bowl. Between one of the sets, I think OMD and Thomas Dolby, the biggest food fight I've ever seen starts up. I took a whole thing of nachos to the side of my head. I got the bastard back with a 32 oz. Coke in the noggin. Last I heard he and a guy named Kendall Thompson were DJing strip clubs.

Not to sound like an Old Town/N.End snob or anything, but I try not to go east of I-5 in Pierce County. [:D] I don't think much has changed there since you left. Maybe a few more rusted-out hulks on the lawns.

Did you know a guy named Devon (sp) from Parkland? I knew him slightly from Skoochies and went to a couple of parties at his place. Gosh, we would drive anywhere for a New Wave party--Mukilteo, North Bend, Parkland!

I loved Skoochies very much, although I wasn't a "regular". I lived down in Lacey WA, so I couldn't get up to Seattle regularly....not too many of my teen friends had cars anyway. But Skoochies was definately the best of the bunch.
That's funny that you mention "Young Guns" b/c every time I was able to get to Skoochies, they were ALWAYS playing it!
Did you ever happen to dj at Pacific Surf Club in Olympia ? Cuz that was where I was able to go more regularly.

Do you remember I played Wham Rap Young Guns and mixed into Bad Boys video back and forth.
No I was not at the Pacific Surf. Only at:
Sundays - Old church in Queen Anne , Hansen Baking Co.

Vancouver's - Lake Union

There were only 2 Billboard Mag. reporters in the NW, I was one of them. You get too many records FIRST ( mostly junks) if you are a reporter. That why Skoochies was so popular because they heard it there first long before other clubs. Some DJs too chicken to play them because it clears the dance floor. he! he!

Hey Dovan, what was the specific time period you were at Skoochies? I didn't know any of the DJs . . . .I guess I was too busy checking out the guys. Damn, why was I so shy back then?

If I am able to get a Skoochies reunion night together, would you be able to either:

1. Come back to Seattle and DJ or

2. Create a playlist for me. I have my own memories of the club, but I went to so many Seattle clubs that the music blends together in my head and I don't think I could put together something that would accurately represent the music from Skoochies.

Beat you are so kind!.

There were 2 kinds of music I played at Skoochies. On Wed nite I played to more hard-core kids; BausHaus, Japan, Jean Love, Sisters of Mercy, Skinny Puppy ,Joy Division, Front 242 and other goodies from 4AD label.

The other is preppy cross-over stuff like Robert Smith and the Cure, DM, OMD, Pet Shop Boys and I am sure you know the rest.

The only thing you will miss are the mixes that made Skoochies so unique. I used some BPM but rarely measure them, just by feelings. I used 16 bars technique( I do not use the fader) just over lay the record with 90% to 100% of the volume and switch ( turn of the volume of the record being played) at 16 bars (beat).

I did have a 15 Years Skoochies Re-Union Party in Bellevue and we had over 2000 people attended. I will probably not be able to be there but you will not have problem attracting Skoochiens. I will give you all my support including suggestive playlist. You will do well.

You should choose an existing club that is playing some '80 stuff to have. Try to contact Randy Schlager or Mike Stevens of GrooveTech to do the party with.

Also talk to Skoochiens about this thread, you never know who would show up.

I help converted Skoochies from a roller Skating ring into a 'Progressive Club' for kids. I was the only dj until 4 months prior closing. Randy Schlager took over for me when I went to help out with the Skoochies of Portland. BTW, you can get almost all the songs on the internet by using P2P tool.

Right after Jimmy's (in Kirkland too many people) closed (Jimmy Malivisis of Adriatica) I went to work at a club??? I forgot the name of the restaurant right across from Sears of Overlake in Bellevue. If you do to MS HQ the restaurant is on the left. This restaurant has thrown some of the best St. Patric's day parties. It was knid of invitation only reuion but we had line around the block just like the old Skoochies. Someone help me with the name, I am getting "OLD"

I'm not Fritz, but I can help.

Hold down the OPTION key and left-click the link, or for those with a two-button mouse, right click the link and select "Save Link As". Now the mouse is the thing with a cord that is generally attached to the keyboard, which is a device that looks like a flat typewriter. It isn't an actual mouse, so don't be scared to push on it.
