I can't pick just one genre.

"Let's Go" from the Reducers - fun, not too serious punky/power pop-ish stuff.

For disco - Sylvester's "You Make Me Feel Mighty Real" - synthy, fast, over the top - just what I think disco ought to be.

Trance - Sister Bliss "Deliver Me", anthemic, epic sounding musical bridge, great progression - makes me feel like I'm flying.

Isn't that the same "Deliver Me" as the original fron "The Beloved" ?.

I'm not sure react010 - I've never heard the Beloved track - I know she's sampling someone though - I assumed it was some old gospel track or something...

I had once gotten into a discussion with a friend what the perfect "pop" song was, after one of those surveys came out and gave the title to "Yesterday" by the Beatles. Anyway, my first choice for the perfect "pop" song was "Innocence" by Kirsty MacColl, followed by "Night Boat to Cairo" by Madness. I think that pretty much sums up where I'm coming from. [:)]

Hmmm, good question Temple.

For me, it would have to be from a band that was rarely played on mainstream radio. Also have to be an uptempo song that was easy to like after one listen...

XTC - General & Majors

If they didn't like either of those, well.... what else is there to talk about?

I was thinking about this on the way into work today and came to the same conclusion as Dave about "Starry Eyes." When this song came out in 1979 Rollling Stone (poss. some other mag) said that it was simply the most perfect pop song ever recorded. Soaring intro, jangle, melody, amusing lyrics, memorable chorus.

For the more New-Wavey stuff, I reviewed my top-100 on the other thread, and it's hard to specify a particular song because each of my favorites combines different elements to create a unique whole. If I had to choose something that most exemplefies things I like, it would have to be "Bizarre Love Triangle." Upbeat but relentless, compulsively danceable . . . .

If we're moving on to Next Wave I could make a case for FF's "Michael," mostly 'cause it's so damn sexy, even if it's about guy-on-guy. That just means more testosterone and d*&%$, right? [:p]

For me, I'd say "Situation" by Yaz. Everyone knows this tune, but it typifies my type of sound exactly...synth-driven, with a strong strong beat you can dance to, and catchy as heck.

"Baby Oh No" by Bow Wow Wow is my other....catchy--check. Strong beat--check. It's so earnest and fun to sing along to, as well!

But if we're talking new wave, how about, the Cure's "Just Like Heaven" or Bananarama's "Hot Line to Heaven."

After posting, I realized both these songs end in "Heaven." Total coincidence. I also love the pop/rock "Heaven" by Bryan Adams.

Can't be done my friend. It's like the roomate switch. People have been trying for the duration of modern history, but still no-go. It gets even more infectious if you've see that great dance sequence with it in "Billy Elliot".
