Here are my favourite bands through the years with some comments next to each one:

1978-1980 – Devo & Blondie (Mr. B’s Ballroom was my theme song and I had a massive crush on Debbie Harry)

1980 – Depeche Mode & OMD (Finally, bands that sounded the way I want music to sound)

1981 – Duran Duran (Add the cool New Romantic clothing to the sound and what a combination)

1982 – Ultravox & Visage (Midge Ure and the gang impressed me with their videos and ability to combine art with music)

1983 – Tears For Fears & Missing Persons (The Hurting was refreshing and the band had a great image which I got really attached to. Missing Persons, finally a cool local New Wave band)

1984 – Savage & Gazebo (The start of my love for Italo Disco. There was more New Wave in the world than just the UK)

1985 – Hubert KaH & Alphaville (Hubert KaH, my idols, music that made goosebumps on my goosebumps. The German Wave phase, which also included Alphaville)

1986 – Sandra & The Pet Shop Boys (Can it get any better, Hubert KaH music with a beautiful female vocalist. The Pet Shop Boys perfects synth music)

1987 – Depeche Mode & Camouflage (Depeche Mode were gods, what else can I say. Of course this triggered a lot of clone bands including Camouflage who were the best and still is. They did develop a style all of their own)

1988 – Bad Boys Blue & Boytronic (Boytronic released their 3rd commercial album and caught my ear for the first time. True true New Wavers. Bad Boys Blue continued cranking out outstanding Eurodisco/Synth albums)

1989 – Xymox & Hubert Kah (Twist of Shadows put synth-goth on the map and Hubert Kah releases their 5th album which includes one of the most beautiful songs of all times, Midnight Sun)

1990 – The Pet Shop Boys & Anything Box (Behaviour was as perfect as an album could be, Peace was the last real New Wave cd)

1991 – The Pet Shop Boys & Anything Box (Still loved them through 1991)

1992 – Cetu Javu & Cicero (Where Is Where & Future Boy)

1993 – Candy Flip (The most confusing year in music for me, one band that I really love was a bleepy band called Candy Flip)

1994 – Boytronic (The re-emerged as my no. 1 band after releasing their 4th commercial album and a few stellar cd singles)

1995 – Elegant Machinery (The beginning of my love for synthpop. New Wave pretty much re-emerges on underground and independent labels. EM was one the best of the early synthpop bands)

1996 – De/Vision & Apoptygma Berzerk (More synthpop bands come to life)

1997 - Present – Hubert Kah, The Pet Shop Boys, Boytronic, Alphaville, Talk Talk, (This has been my favourite five for the past 8 years. I also love OMD & Depeche is quickly finding it’s way back to my top 10 again)

It's gonna be a little foggy. The absolute favorites tended not to be that exotic since they usually had more albums, songs, and hits. I think it was something like this...

Led Zeppelin - most of the 70s

The Cars - very late 70s to 1981

The Police - very early 80s

Sparks & X - 81-83??

Smiths & New Order - 84ish until early 90s

Everything but the Girl - late 80s to mid 90s

Early 90s - lots of dance, electronica...oh yeah, and grunge!

Smashing Pumpkins - most of the 90s

Radiohead - mid to late 90s

New Order - 2001 and on!

British Sea Power - now!!!

Early 80's - B52s, Police, Toyah, Kid Creole

Mid 80's - New Order, OMD, Hi-NRG, misc. dance stuff

Late 80's - Tanita Tickaram, Innocence Mission - I went through a pretty introspective, depressive, sentimental time around then.

Then it was mostly techno, trance, etc. for many years. With some Catherine Wheel & Curve thrown in.

Now - all those mentioned + Big Country, Chameleons UK, Marshall Crenshaw, Rachel Sweet. I'm sure I'll have more over the months/years - this site has opened me up to some incredible music. I never would have heard Chameleons without it!

2000's - I have definitely gone back to my new wave/punk phase, exploring bands that I didn't get into the first go around (too many favorites to list). I also love a lot of the next wave stuff and trance/techno/electronica. Specific likes: Bjork, Portishead, Thievery Corporation.

1985 - (after Jr. High I was really opened up to all sorts of different music, so at this point, I was listening to anything from D.I. and Social Distortion, to Depeche and Duran, to the Cure and Siouxsie.
1986 – Gene Loves Jezebel, Siouxsie, the Cure, the Smiths, Soft Cell, Toy Dolls, D.I., Social Distortion, Bowie
1987 - 1988 – Toy Dolls, D.I., Motley Crue, Jane’s Addiction, Circle Jerks, the Dickies, Sex Pistols
1988 -1989 – The B-52’s, Visage, Ultravox, Roxy/Ferry, Japan/Sylvian, Duran Duran (at this point, I was tired of all the pretentiousness of the few punks and death rockers around me, so I dropped everything and went back to listening to New Ro/80’s. I still listened to the other stuff too though, Siouxsie, etc. but I think I started dropping off with the harder stuff.
1990 – Didn’t the Cranberries come out around this time? They were one of my favorites.
1991 –1999 – through the rest of the nineties, my music tastes differed a lot, I was into Hanoi/Monroe other glam stuff, rock and roll, etc. I also caught on to that second wave of ska that hit around the late eighties/early nineties. Weird! The nineties were really odd musically. I never did get into that grunge scene. I thought it was lame. *shrugs*
Nowadays – I listen to just about anything, but mostly old Death Rock and New Wave stuff. I’m also enjoying a lot of the New Wave-ish bands that are coming out lately, some elctroclash, melancholy (or shoegaze I guess you would call it)

KISS turned me onto Rock n' Roll in the mid 70's. My parents took me to see them in 78' Since then the bands that I have followed thru the years include: G.B.H., The Ramones, Sex Pistols, Slayer, The Cars, DEVO, B-52's, Social Distortion, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Suicidal Tendencies, The Damned.

- [b]1983-1984[/b]: Very mainstream stuff. Anything coming off MTV and radio was up for grabs, some of the most memorable ones are Madonna, Michael Jackson, David Bowie, ABC, Queen, Roxy Music, Blondie, Van Halen, Foreigner, Journey, Yazoo, Duran Duran, Japan, Culture Club, Talk Talk, Spandau Ballet, Crowded House, Men At Work, The Ramones, F.R. David, The Alan Parsons Project, Yes, ELO, The Steve Miller Band, Hall & Oates, America, etc, etc.

- [b]1985-1986[/b]: Further excerpts of top 40 added to the previous listings, and a couple of Italodisco songs here and there... plus lots of tropical Salsa and Cumbia music[8D] Some of the bands I would listen to were Gazebo, Baltimora, Paul Lekakis, Johnny Hates Jazz, The Bollock Brothers, Cutting Crew, Alphaville, OMD, Shalamar, Herbie Hancock, Miguel Bose.

- [b]1987[/b]: Kids around the neighborhood listened to Metal, mainly Iron Maiden. I did too[}:)] Not much happened that year...

- [b]1988-1991[/b]: Old skool hip hop - we're talking Kool Mo Dee, Kid 'N Play, MC Hammer, 2 Live Crew, Mellow Man Ace, Digital Underground, Public Enemy, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Grandmaster Flash. Also, a lot of House and Freestyle: Johnny O, Stevie B, Timmy T, Expose, The Cover Girls, Safire, etc. A little bit of other things mainly from Mr. Bungle, Faith No More, Suicidal Tendencies, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lords Of The New Church.

- [b]1992-1994[/b]: Metal and Hard Rock reigned supreme. Megadeth, mainly. Motorhead, Metallica, Iron Maiden (again), Danzig, Slayer, Sepultura, Pantera, Guns 'N Roses, Hanoi Rocks, Def Leppard, Dio, AC/DC, Judas Priest, Rush. Some popular Industrial bands like NIN, Ministry, KMFDM. Also random stuff like Goo Goo Dolls (before they became huge), The Stereo MCs, Radiohead, Sugar, Sonic Youth, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Gin Blossoms, Counting Crows.

- [b]1995-1997[/b]: Popular junk and miscellany. Weezer, Garbage, Beck, Third Eye Blind, The Wallflowers, Oasis, Morrissey, Mazzy Star. Some Techno.

- [b]1998-2000[/b]: BritPop, Glam, and foreign stuff. This is when I began collecting music. Kent, Rialto, Suede, Travis, Radiohead (again), The Smiths (this band is the reason I collect music), The Cure. Strangely enough, I get swept in by the Techno craze.

- [b]2001-2004[/b]: This is the part where I began recollecting my past life... on cd format[8D] 80s is HUGE in this timeline. I add more Industrial and Goth stuff to my faves. Lounge and Space Pop is in the back of my mind. Techno is completely outta the picture.

- [b]2005[/b]: The 80s comes back in a big way and I lose some interest in collecting 80s music. Lounge takes some precedent. ProgRock, Metal, and Classic Rock begin to sink in. 70s and 80s Top 40 and Soft Rock start to sound really good again. I take those cds out for a spin and reminisce[8D]
