The FALL-- fans?

Hey gang. Not really a NW band, though they sure touched on the genre on and off through their career.

I've heard them mentioned here a time or two and wondered if there were any major Fall fans aboard.

Personally I love 'em. One of my top bands ever. They are not known for consistency (they have released some crap albums in their time, but they've been putting out close to 2 albums per year since 1978.)

I think it's astounding that after all the time they've been together (or that singer Mark Smith has been able to gather some kind of band around him, as he's the only constant member), they still produce some very cool, fresh music.

Their latest album is pretty flat, but last year's "Real New Fall LP" is killer.

In Manila, The Fall is considered New Wave, I have 5 albums:

Although the band is not one of my faves, they produced a few good songs. On Top,I would put C.R.E.E.P, A NW anthem over here. Anyone who doesn't own that track should shoot himself/herself in the head three times a day![:D] Then, Cruisers Creek, L.A, Victoria, Vixen, Terry Waite Sez, Life Just Bounces, Pretty Thief Lout and a few others. If U have any recommendations, I would be glad to check them out![:)]

YES! Major fan here. We have another one on the board (Swampthing). I'm sure he'll chime in too. I disagree about the new album though. I like it quite a bit, although I agree "The Real New Fall LP" is better. They have to be THE ultimate love them or hate them kind of band.

My all-time favorite Fall song is "Guest Informant". It's just so much fun to drive around town cranking that and yelling along like a lunatic.

Did you get the Peel Sessions box? It's pretty damn great.

They've release so much material over the years that I find it very difficult to keep up. At one time in the early mid 90's I had pretty much everything they released (non-bootleg) up to that point. Over the last 10 years I've become more selective in my purchases. I've seen them live twice, both show were very good. My favorites CD's are Bend Sinister, Perverted by Language, The Wonderful And Frightening World Of..., and This Nation's Saving Grace.

Cool! I knew there'd be some people here with the taste to dig The Fall.

I re-listened to Fall Heads Roll this morning and it IS better than I recalled. Not their best, but it's pretty solid.

Swampthing, your faves list reads like mine (except that I don't rate This Nation's Saving Grace as highly, though My New House and Paintwork are fantastic and the singles included in the CD release make it essential.)

I do have the Peel Box Set and think it is THE release of 2005, hands down.

Wonderful and Frightening and Perverted By Language are likely my favorites, though I am fond of all the Beggar's Banquet albums and love Hex Enduction Hour.

Yeah-- Guest Informant is a blast. I'm not even sure what they're chanting there-- "NASDAQ, State Cog, Analyst!" or something.

Well, I had about 50+ Fall CDs but I just thinned them out by nearly half. I had a lot of compilations, collections and live stuff I just don't listen to that often, so I burned off the best of that stuff and sold them, which still leaves me with 25 or so discs PLUS the Peel Box and the "Touch Sensitive" bootleg box.

MES is my favorite lyricist of all time.

[/quote] There are a couple of duds on that one but Spoilt Victorian Child, L.A., I Am Domo Suzuki, Petty Theif Lout (plus the two you listed) are some of my favorite fall songs.

I'm a fan as well. I pretty much have stuck to their very early stuff, only have about 5 or 6 of their many releases, but I do enjoy them.
