Great Songs - Two Versions?

Angel Eyes by Roxy Music has two different versions. When the album Manifesto came out in 1979 it contained a harder, guitar oriented version. Later editions of the album contained a softer, disco version. Even the greatest hits compilation, Street Life, contains the later, disco version. It's really hard to find the original version, which is my favorite. Here they are.

First thought I had was Pretty In Pink by the Furs...a darker edgy sounding version on the album, and then remixed for the soundtrack.

Not remixed...re-RECORDED for the soundtrack! Completely new version. Same deal as the Pillow Lips version of Modern English "Melt With You" (mentioned above): this was an inferior re-RECORDED version.

I almost shit my pants when I read this. Then I went to check my [i]Manifesto[/i] album and it has the original version. This is the remastered album that came out years ago[8D] I have the disco version too, which is the version they did for the music video[:)] Both are good alternates of each other.

Kinda coincidental since I am doing a Roxy Music 10 year retrospective for a webcast show titled "Stranded In Avalon 1972-1982"[8D]

I've read that the 12" version of DEATH DISCO of PIL was on the Plastic Box, and that that would be readon enough to buy this box... Well, I have only the SECOND EDITION version.
Can anybody here fill me in what the difference is, and if it's worthwhile ?

Lots of different versions of then 12"bands were available.
I think WHIPPET from McKenzie/Hiller was great on 12" compared to the Hiller album version.
DRILL from WIRE had some amazing different versions which were put on DVD. After playing those you felt like you've been travelling quite far by train.

I know very few of us here are into EBTG but since we're on the topic, there are two versions of Aprons Strings I know of - the first is from the Idlewild album which was slower, more acoustic; the second is from the "She's Having a Baby OST" which has a jazzier, more upbeat feel.

I bet there's actually a lot of closet EBTG fans. I'd love to hear the OST version if you can somehow arrange it. I'm familiar with a lot of their remixes but not this alt version. Even the slow stuff from albums like Worldwide and Language of Life sound great when redone uptempo by the likes of Deep Dish, Underdog, Todd Terry, etc.

Vitamin Z (featured prominently on another hot topic on this board) put "Burning Flame" on both of their albums. The vocals sound very close but I'm 99% sure the version on their 2nd album Sharp Stone Rain was re-recorded rather than remixed. The ROP version is far better IMHO. They jazzed up the newer version with horns, pretty much ruining the mood of a very sad song.

Which version of "Melt With You" features the call-and-response "You should know better/You should see?" That's the versio I like.

Real Life has re-recorded Send Me An Angel several times (a la Modern English)--why not get every dime from the one hit you've had, I suppose[;)]

Interestingly my vinyl version of Heartland by these guys has a different version of Send Me an Angel than the single version as well, that's a bit more choppy and without the vocoder

I'll ask the New Order oracles here: Didn't they put out two versions of a couple of songs? The one that comes to mind is the two versions of 1963 (Of which I like the former better)

Finally the Bluebells have recorded a couple of versions of both "Cath" and "Everybody's Somebody's Fool"
