What are the experts using for Vinyl Ripping?

Postby jc4dshore » Fri Dec 03, 2004 3:33 am

I have used several techniques, but alas I have not come upon the 'perfect' solution.

Optimally, I'd like a recorder (from Line input for turntables), with the ability to split the files after each song. Otherwise, I have to record, stop, start, record, etc.

And of course, need to usual enhancers for hiss, pop, crackle, and amplification.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The win is that I have some 'great' Vinyl to share.

How about the 'clear blue' version of the 'No Wave' album.

Thanks,

ps. Mike P. - I graduated in '78, so I WAS a teenager during the whole period. It was great!!!

There are a lot of people here with some good experience doing this and I have found that there is no ONE way to do things

MusicMatch Jukebox is an inexpensive start point. It can rip your vinyl and detedt the space bewtween tracks and stop and start for each track automaticaly, it can then normalize the sound to eliminate unwanted peaks in volume automaticaly too. This is ju

I just record into Garageband on my Mac. I connect my boom box's headphone jack to my Mac's mic jack with a standard double ended wire with 2.5 mm plugs. The wire cost around 2 bucks from Radio Shack.

I used to use the freeware version of Felt Tip Soun

I just record the vinyl directly to a CD via my stereo, take the CD to my computer, load them and clean them up best I can with GoldWave, as Jimbo mentioned. GoldWave has a lot of limitations, though; there are some pops and cracks and noises I just can'
