The decision to leave out the display is partly to keep the retail cost under a hundred bucks and also to leave the iPod minis and above viable options for customers wanting a display. Apple knows better to cannibalize it's own sales with an untested product. Or knows enough to keep well enough alone if it's a good thing. In this case, a money maker.

[/quote]Why do you need a display on a 1 GB shuffle?

I've got about 260 songs in mine -- I'm the one who loaded it up -- I know what songs are in it, and when I'm running i don't need to look at a display to see what song is on -- I know what song is on, cause I put them on there.

It is cute and that's why I want it. The fact that it happens to be a fairly decent player as well is a bonus. It will go nicely with my mobile phone, at 77x44x12.8mm probably the world's smallest:

Btw, how did you get the pictures to display in your post? Tried to do this but failed.

Here's another <a href="http://www.anythingbutipod.com/archives/2005/06/vr3-fm-modulator-turns-any-usb-flash-drive-into-an-mp3-player.php" target="blank">cool RF gadget</a> for your mp3 player.
Plays mp3s via those USB memory 'sticks'/ 'jump drives' or from your player via a built in input jack.

Pretty inexpensive too![;)]

Okay beeyatches, feast your eyes on this!

<img src="http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/images/numark_ipods.jpg">

A pro level iPod DJ Mixer with crossfading and transport controls plus a buffer and tools for pitch control and scratching. None of this tinny mic-out crap either of course; line-out through the Pod's bottom FW/USB port for pristine sound. And forget about MP3s. Cue up two 60gig bad boys and load them up with real 40meg/each AIFFs for superior sound - about 3000 full rez tracks! And two Pods plus the mixer for $1000? Wow! That's the best thing since soap-on-a-rope!

It ain't just about style man. This is fun and sexy technology baby!!!

Damned right Blir. And what do some of these bars and clubs have on certain nights? Bring your own Rio and be a DJ? No, bring your iPod and share.
