Replacements remasters, wishful thinking?!?!

Replacements remasters, wishful thinking?!?!

Postby korova1 » Mon Feb 20, 2006 11:54 pm

Hey there hi there, a buddy of mine emailed me this... found it somewhere on a forum, thought I'd share. This is HUGE if you are a 'Mats fan... I had heard this stuff was in the works? Anybody at verify PLEASE!?!?!?

"The Replacements entire catalog is supposed to appear Re-mastered in 2006 through Rykodisc (Twin-Tone Era) and Rhino (Sire era).

Ryko bought the rights to Restless Records, if I'm not mistaken, and Twin-Tone still has a distribution deal with Restless. I'm not sure Restless bought Twin-Tone, and I'm pretty sure Ryko hasn't bought Twin-Tone either.

The re-issued Twin-Tone era cds do sound far better than the original issues. Sound is full throughout.

The All For Nothing... collection was re-mastered, but there isn't a lot of discernible difference in the previously released stuff. The second disc of rarities sounds great throughout though...

There is supposed to be a box set this year on Rhino to launch the reissue campaign that will include output from both labels. True, there was talk of this last year, but this is the 'mats first year on the R&R Hall of Fame ballot, and these things tend to appear right before the ballots go out, right?

I do recall a Ryko ad in someting called Ice Magazine 3 months ago that said Replacements re-issues were coming soon."

PEACE

OK, got a little info. I hear there are remasters due from both Ryko and Rhino (with bonus stuff), plus a box set in the works. As far as dates, I've heard anywhere from late Spring on some of the stuff to the Fall on other stuff. Who knows. I hope it is true and people aren't pulling my leg.

Warner Music Group just announced today that they are buying Ryko, and that Rhino would be working with Ryko on reissues, so the prospects for the Restless/Twin-Tone stuff just got a lot better today...

That will make it interesting on alot of future stuff getting put out!!! Ryko purchased some of the Restless, Twin Tone, TVT, Hannibal, Thirsty Ear, Wax Trax, and many other catalogs. We can only wait and see, wait and see what happens. This can be either good or bad, depends on what Rhino plans on doing. Hopefully re-releasing a boatload of stuff!!
