Which version did you get from the Ideal Copy, the Japanese or the UK?

I just received my Japanese edition double disc set from The Ideal Copy. For some odd reason, I cannot for the life of me rip the disc to my hard drive. I have a music server setup in my house and I've ripped over 4,600 discs without any problems. But, I cannot rip this disc.

I've tried EAC, Plextor Tools, Easy CD-DA Extractor, and a few others. Some of the ripping programs report errors, others claim the disc rips fine. But in all cases, the WAV files sound garbled. They're not complete noise -- I can make out what songs are what -- but they sound terrible as if something is out of synch.

I'd be curious to see if other people are able to rip the Japanese edition of the disc as well as whether people are able to rip the regular UK release.

Any tips or suggestions are also appreciated.

Thanks,
Blake

Blakeh,

Someone over at tennent-lowe figured out how to do it. Check the end of this thread for the recommendation. I don't have my discs yet, so I haven't tried it:

Is this just a problem with the PSB Japanese release?

Don: Thanks for the link. The process the poster describes is a bit too convoluted for me to try. I'm worried I wouldn't get a good bit-perfect copy of the tracks after all the conversion steps.

I posted a note in the hydrogenaudio.com forums and have some good leads on software that may be able to rip the tracks directly. I'm going to be trying Slysoft's AnyDVD (http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html ) when I get home tonight. I'll let you know how it works.

Sean: The copy protection appears to only be instituted on the Japanese release. The UK and forthcoming US release should be fine.

FYI: AnyDVD worked wonderfully. No problems extracting the songs at all. The only caveat is that I had to use an older version of EAC (0.95 beta3 or earlier) and activate the "native TOC" option in order for the tracks to extract correctly.

Thanks Blake. I ordered the UK version. Hope I didn't miss out on those 2 bonus tracks.

I got my discs today (Japanese version). I was able to rip them straight using Easy CD-DA Extractor 9.1. Before putting the disc in the drive, I held down the shift key to prevent any autorun feature from launching. I had to exit out of the program and start it again before ripping the second disc.

For what it's worth, my disc drive is a Teac DVD+RW DV-W58E.

ANYDVD worked for me as well. I had the same problem extracting the tracks off of my Japanese edition of Fundamental. You can download a 21 day trial version to get the job done at

http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html

It was a lifesaver. Good luck!
