True UFO in the French scene, Danse Macabre is composed of Louis Thévenon (drums), Philippe Huart (bass-guitar, guitars), Claude Lamamy (voice and various instruments), Patrick Blain (Charles de Goal main member, voice, bass-guitar and guitar), Philippe Ross (ex-C.O.M.A.) and Pearl Cholley (voice and choirs). The result – six tracks mostly improvised, craddled of experimental sonorities and oscillating between Bauhaus, Public Image Limited and Christian Death – is of exceptionnal quality. Danse Macabre (1983) opens on the powerfull Crucifixation, a “jam” around the Bauhaus Stigmata Martyr. It follows with very experimental tracks, arranged by Patrick Woindrich, including the excellent Tryptique, kind of gothic black mass written by Claude Lamamy. Born of an spontaneous artistical need Danse Macabre will disappear as quickly as it appeared, leaving this only 12”EP to posterity. Today high priced in records fairs, the Danse Macabre record stays not less than one of the French gothic scene masterpiece.

I've got a Danse Macabre CD that compiles 1981 Between The Lines and 1982 Last Request. It is from New Zealand, and is darker goth syth stuff. Wonder if it is same group, or just another one with that same name???

I'm not familiar with the French Danse Macabre, but the New Zealand Danse Macabre is not the same group. Because they're, you know, from New Zealand.

Nigel Russell - synthesizers, vocals
Wes Prince - guitars, keyboards
Ralph Crump - bass
Roddy Carlson - drums, percussion

I have a couple of records on the Reaction label, which feature a combined sum of zero good songs.

Saying my disc is from NZ doesn't make the band from there. I simply meant I had a NZ disc, wasn't sure it was same group. Similarly, The Beatles records were also released in USA, I am pretty sure I still knew they were from England. Guess not all of us are as smart as others.

What's that all about, Grunch? You sound like the people who were whining in the "Likes and Dislikes" and "Grunch, What Are U Smoking?" threads. Are U the only one who's allowed to have a dry sense of humor? Go easy on me there, big guy. I just pointed out that they were from NZ (Auckland, to be specific) and named the members, so everybody would know they weren't the French band in question. It wasn't an insult. Sheesh!

Just checked my records, by the way, and they're the two you listed. Apparently, they only had the two. I also have a 45 from Car Crash Set, the equally short-lived band Russell fronted after Danse Macabre N.Z. broke up. Completely different sound. Not much more memorable.
