The new RA 6 has been an obsession of mine for most of 2006. Now that it's 2007, I'm so excited for it to come out. Tell us Alex when.....PLEEEEEEEEEEEASE!!!!!

I gave RA5 to a friend in DE for Xmas (I've given him 1-4 previously), and his comment was "RA5 - groups that no one's heard of" or something like that. Maybe it was "tracks that no one's heard of".

Just a thought (and it's not my own opinion).

<font size=1>If you think your signature is cool, then most likely, it is actually annoying.[/i]

It does need more songs from the likes of the cure, A-Ha, Echo and the Bonnymen etc.

The lesser known tracks are great but it is the well known tracks that sell to the mainstram cd buying public.

I think RA-5 was brilliant!!!! I heard of all of these artists too! That's the beauty of this series compared to others. Nobody comes close to releasing the gems that Alex and Company do so well. The Retro: Active series is all about preserving the legacy of the New Wave / Alternative club/12-inch versions. And the general public needs to be educated. Sure, include names that are familiar, but I'm all for the discovery and/or rediscovery of the not so famous, the infamous, the unique, obscure and the bizzare!!! Even if the series goes the route of a subscription service, I'd happily pay for it.

They are both hard to find classics (eg. Lita Fords "Kiss me deadly") and lesser known bands that should be included as well as the bigger names.

To strike the right balance is difficult - the Retro Active series is very good.

Here's my thoughts on the Retro:Active Series:

I love being able to get some remixes that I otherwise would never find on CD. Each volume has contained only a couple of remixes that I had to have, but each one has also introduced me to great remixes I never heard or don't remember. That being said, I hate spending over $13.00 on ANY single disc. I very rarely spend that much. I have over 3,800 CD in my collection and I'd say that I've spent over $13.00 on less than 1% of them. The Retro series is hard to find in retail stores. I bought the first 4 volumes in Best Buy months after their release date. I still haven't seen volume 5 in Best Buy and recently found it at Borders and bought it there. So personally, I think it would sell better if it was more readily available at a more reasonable price.

I also think there is a LARGE market for the 7" versions of songs like these. I'd love to get "Jet Set" and "Hold It" in their 7" mixes. Here are some songs that won Screamer or Shreek of the Week on WLIR/WDRE and has never appeared on CD:

I Don't Believe A Word - A Bigger Splash
When I Feel This Way - APB
I Wonder Who's Out Tonight - Burns Sisters Band
Eugene - Crazy Joe
Obsession - Des Barres, Michael And Holly Knight
Girls, Cars, And Rock And Roll - Destri, Johnny
(Theme From) Doctor Detoit - Devo
Bag Lady - Ebn Ozn
Wolfman Tap - Electric Guitars
Kinetic - Hilary
Drop Your Pants - Hilary
Bumble Boogie - Holland, Jools
It's Alright - Jo Jo Zip And The Falcons
Breakin' The Rules - Lovich, Lene
So Afraid Of The Russians - Made For TV
Ink And Paper - Modern English
City Bound ("E" Train) - Novo Combo
Everybody's Boring But My Baby Pearl Harbour
Way Of Life - Puppets, The (12" Vocal Version - Quality Records)
Bed Of Nails - Quick, The
Touch - Secession
Disappearing - Sinceros, The
Formidable - Syl Sylvain And The Teardrops

Although "Way of Life" by The Puppets was on Volume 1 of Hardest Hits, it isn't the 12" Vocal version played on WLIR.

There are so many other great new wave songs that as far as I know have never been commercially released on CD:

Somewhere In The World There's A Cowboy Smiling - Blue Zoo
Fred From Jupiter - Digette
Hang Up The Phone - Annie Golden
Let's Talk It Over In The Ladies Room - Curtie And The Boombox
Postcard To New York (12" Remixed Single Version) - Movieland
Sanctuary - The Passions
Avenue "B" (12") - Major Thinkers
Dancing With My 80 Wives - The Individuals
Romanticide (Original 7" Version) - Combo Audio
Playback (Original 7" Version) - Q
Shoo Shoo Wah - The World
The Right Man - The Units
A Girl Like You - The Units
Canvas Of Life - Minor Detail
Love Breakdown - White Door
Nik Nak Paddy Wak - The Snowmen
Starvation (12") - Starvation
Close To You - Nine Ways To Win

Well that's all for now. I sure hope the series not only continues but expands as suggested. I hope you're listening Alex.

This is a superb song. It would be great to see this one included.

If there was an extended version this would be a fine edition, yes

The single version is not available on CD but if there would ever be a collection of obscure 80's new wave single versions this should be included for sure!
