Yazoo 'In Your Room' Box Set Pricing

Yazoo 'In Your Room' Box Set Pricing

Postby Blakeh » Fri Apr 25, 2008 12:10 am

Yikes! Pricing for the new Yazoo box set seems very steep. The Ideal Copy has about the best deal on it so far at $99.99 + shipping. Amazon is listing it for $111.99. Why so expensive? It's just three CDs and a DVD! Hundreds of box sets configured like this come out with a price point of $49.99 to $59.99 -- this is almost double.

Obviously Mute must be setting the pricing since everyone seems to be pricing it at around $100 (or above). It just seems like they're gouging a bit.

Ideal Copy, as always, is a ripoff. I'm not sure where this is imported from, but it is 40 euros at amazon.de. That's about $70 (still alot of dough), although shipping will be a bitch unless you order other stuff.

I don't see it on amazon.co.uk, but that's likely to be better than amazon.de, as their shipping charges are lower.

So this will not be a USA release?

It's also 40 pounds including postage at the UK Mute store.

Oh come on Blake - you are loaded! You have staff just to fold your money! :)
I would also recommend the 12" of Nobody's Diary - some nice mixes on that I am told.

@Barmy: I don't find that The Ideal Copy is a rip-off at all. At times they are 5-10% over what Amazon might charge, but in most cases they are not outrageous.

And they're customer service is very, very good. A few years ago I purchased a "best Of" Shakespear's Sister CD + DVD set from them. The initial run of DVDs that shipped with the sets had a mastering problem that caused the audio to be out of sync with the video. I emailed Chris from The Ideal Copy right away and he did some checking for me. Turns out no on knew when (or if) a corrected version was going to be released (Warner UK never returned my emails).

Chris and I both forgot about it, until I got on a Shakespear's Sister kick last week. I emailed Chris (now remember, this was two years later) and asked him if I could still return the DVD for a new corrected version. Without hesitation he sent me a new DVD that worked perfectly (no charges, shipping or otherwise).

Try to get that kind of service out of Amazon! They definitely earned some points with me for service.

P.S. As I mentioned, The Ideal Copy is the cheapest U.S. source I've found for the box set, so I don't think they're ripping anyone off.

Have to agree with Blakeh, Ideal Copy has the best customer service and lowest domestic prices on imports that I've seen. My only complaint is there slow website!!!

I believe the week US dollar is hurting import prices.

I would expect to pay about 80 US dollar for something that cost 40 pounds (retail).

I wonder if the distributor is padding the price for their US customers????

If Ideal Copy is so great, why are they charging $100 plus shipping for something you can buy DIRECTLY from Mute for $80 (including shipping). Remember, they buy this wholesale so the markup looks like 30-40% at least. Ripoff. [:(] Who cares if they are the cheapest US retailer if you can buy it from the UK for $25 less, plus not feel like you're getting ripped off.

And they do this for many of their imports.

I'm curious if Ideal Copy buys directly from Mute or through another party. I wonder if they have to pay special import tarrifs.

I agree that if you can buy directly from the label for cheap, then that's the way to go.

sorry , but that's not true !
it's actually 47 euros @ amazon.de right now ( 26th of april 2008 ) !
see for yourself <a href="http://www.amazon.de/Your-Room-3cd%2BDvd-Yazoo/dp/B0017VJBI8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1209210787&sr=8-2">here</a> !

however ... i wouldn't pay more than 50 euro for it anyway , so it's acceptable , albeit not really "a nice price" !

It is true--minus VAT it's 40 euro. The price you quote includes VAT.

Anyway, I recommend buying from Mute or waiting to see how amazon.co.uk prices it. I'm not buying it until I see reviews, and even then I'm not sure given the cost.

If it is a US release I would check deepdiscount.com.
No shipping charges ever.

Guess they're just begging people to torrent the set by charging too much.

well ... u can't buy it for 40 euro , as u have to pay , what u call vat ( mehrwertsteuer in german ) for it too !
i don't know , if & how u could buy that item or any other one ( legally from a german seller ) without paying vat for it !?
in other words : if i want to buy it from amazon.de i have to pay 47 euro for it !
