Eighties Fashion sightings

I was downtown Salt Lake City over the weekend and saw a group of guys that came into the food court of Crossroads Mall for lunch.

One was wearing a halfcut jacket (cut at the waist) and a Derby Hat; one was wearing a Zebra Striped overcoat, Vans and was sporting eye makeup & blush; and the final one was wearing an overcoat with band names pasted all over it. I thought I'd stumbled into a time warp of a Madness v. Duran Duran v. Billy Idol music video set!

Any body else had any similar sightings lately?

Just go to a New Jersey Wal-Mart. You'll see mullets, members-only jackets, and teased hair women with their oversized sweaters over stirrup pants tucked into baggy socks. Ecch.

I just saw a good-lookin' sixteen- or seventeen-year-old kid in Levis, boat shoes, and a pale aquamarine I-Zod polo shirt with the collar flipped up. I did not detect irony or "retro" humor. I think he was entirely serious.

There is a store in the Queens Center Mall with totally cool cloths. Its a dark store with great music and everyone working there dresses 80's.

I see kids at my school where I teach at wearing those stripey tops and skirts...it's very 80's, altho they just got it from the mall, which makes it corporate. but what the heck--it's cute anyway!

This past weekend we visited my stepson at the performing arts college he goes to in Chicago. There was one kid I saw who was wearing the worst mix of punk, prep and thrift store I'd ever seen. I swear he must have had seven layers of clothes on. Brigh

I've noticed that argyle sweaters are showing up again at some of the "trendy" stores. I sort of like the look.
