The Smiths - Rare Tracks/ iTunes

The Smiths - Rare Tracks/ iTunes

Postby clarence » Mon Jun 23, 2008 3:39 pm

I get the distinct impression many of you aren't fans of iTunes, but for what it's worth since I haven't seen a post about this before I thought it worth mentioning I found on iTunes 14 tracks by The Smiths that are out of print as far as I know. Curiously enough, you can only buy them individually at 99 cents a track in the US, but they have artwork for this "collection" imaginatively called "Rare". Since I didn't have most of the tracks before I don't know if all are the full versions, but I did have two of my favorite instrumentals ("The Draize Train" and "Money Changes Everything"), and they are slightly shorter than the versions I have (from the "Panic" single and the comp "The World Won't Listen" respectively). Anyway, here's the track listing:
1. Wonderful Woman 3:10
2. Jeane 3:05
3. Money Changes Everything 4:24
4. The Draize Train 4:55
5. I Keep Mine Hidden 2:00
6. Accept Yourself (different version than "Hatful" or "Louder Than Bombs") 3:56
7. Handsome Devil (Peel Session) 2:48
8. What's the World? 2:06
9. Pretty Girls Make Graves (Non Album Version) 3:22
10. Miserable Lie (Peel Session) 4:38
11. Reel Around the Fountain (Peel Session) 5:54
12. Still Ill (Peel Session) 3:35
13. You've Got Everything Now (Peel Session) 4:12
14. This Charming Man (Peel Session) 2:41

Cheers,

"I Keep Mine Hidden" is one of 2 b sides for the "Sweet and Tender Hooligan" single. They're OOP, but you can still find them.(I have it on cd). Also, I could be wrong(cant remember if they are), but I think all of those "Peel Sessions" are available on various singles/maxi singles. Infact, there is a "Peel Sessions" cd maxi out, that you can still find, some of the tracks listed are on it.

It's not that I'm NOT a fan of ITunes, I just feel that if you're going to spend the cash to purchase all of these singles, why not put them on a hard copy disc, and sell them in stores, where you can possibly sell even more? Many Smiths fans would purchase this on hard copy cd, regardless og how many songs we already own. Just MO anyways, thanks for the post.

Nice tracks and I would buy this in a heartbeat if they put this on a silver cd.

I bought some cd's a few weeks ago and a 24 year old kid that I knew came up to me and asked "why did you buy those cd's for, how come you didn't just download them"? Ummmmmmmmmm. [:(!]

Do people actually pay $1 to download a single song?

as far as this being a bootleg... glad i downloaded them when i did then! my understanding is that morrissey and marr loathe each other about as much as ian brown and john squire of the stone roses, so i've little hope smiths reissues, box sets, singles boxes, etc. will ever happen.

as far as paying $1 a song goes... i gladly will and do if i can't obtain the song any other way. it's a last resort i rarely have had to resort to. plus, in many cases i only want one particular song from an album anyway. i'm probably a bit odd that way... a few bands i feel compelled to collect everything from. some bands i want the whole album. but there are far more i just want a certain song or songs by.
