Thanks for the post pinkyblue82. I recently burned two cd's worth of stuff from my U2 vinyl collection(early singles, remixes, b-sides and live stuff), and a bunch of it shows up here on cd finally. Looking forward to this!

I'm stoked becuase they're going to release a single version of the all the forthcoming remasterd albums. I'm not a huge U2 fan so I wouldn't necessarily but the two disc editions, but I would definitely double dip for a Boy single edition. This is exciting. "Stories for Boys" is an excellent tune.

Does anybody else agree that the price of these remasters are absoloutely scandalous. In the UK the cheapest you can buy them for is £17.99 which if you buy all three is well over £50.[V] A better option i noticed on amazon.com they are selling a box set http://www.amazon.com/Deluxe-Box-Set-Am ... 439&sr=1-1 which is $63.99 which roughly converts to about £32 which is actually cheaper than buying two here. Anyone planning on buying Under A Blood Red Sky should check this out as well http://www.amazon.co.uk/Under-Blood-Red ... 734&sr=1-1 I'm sure that's a mistake but if you preorder now they have to sell you it at that price.

totally agree on that - seems like the industry is thinking: hey, the fans will buy it anyway so better cash-in on them again... especially if you compare the price to the one of the standard one disc edition - hello? 11-12UKP for the bonus disc???

Not the industry, as such, it's the band in this case. For someone (Bono) who goes on about 'World Debt' so much, it's quite ironic he's trying to create a new world debt amongst his own fanbase....

Problem being with these is people will buy them because i read somewhere the doubles are supposed to be limited. If i can cast my mind back to 1998 when the 1980 - 1990 double compilation came out i remember at the time they said those were going to be limited as well then a few years later they reissued them again. Well i have downloaded all three doubles and i am happy in the knowledge that my cash is not going into bonos pocket. Oh and the price of that deluxe version of The Joshua Tree was a joke as well.

I snagged them on sale at Best Buy for $19.99 ea., which was $12 less than my other local store was listing them for. Listening to Boy now, and the sound is definitely an improvement (although I haven't done an A-B comparison yet).

That's a very good deal you have found there works out at only £10 per album compared to the £18 we have to pay here in the UK. I know nobody is forcing me to buy these but i'm getting pretty sick of bands reissuing stuff time and time again and charging the roof for them. I remember many years ago i had Gold Mother by James and the single Sit Down had been reissued and it did well in the charts so they decided to put it on new pressings of the album so basically anyone who had the old pressings could take it back to the record shop and get the new version for free which i thought was a very good gesture. No fear of that happening now they are just out to bleed you dry.

i preordered them from Amazon because they came out to $21 a disc and they are in a special 3 cd box exclusively sold at Amazon. Though, i am not happy because they have delayed it a week.

Product Description
This limited edition collectible U2 Deluxe Edition boxset is handsomely constructed in a sturdy hardbound shell, measuring 5 3/4" (width) x 2 3/4" (spine width) x 5 7/16" (tall) and comes with the newly remastered and expanded 2 CD deluxe editions of the bands first three albums BOY, OCTOBER and WAR, plus room for a fourth (not included). Re-mastered from the original audio tapes, each deluxe includes a disc of b-sides, live tracks and rarities, and the packaging on all three titles has been restored and expanded, with new liner notes for each record, previously unseen photos and full lyrics.
This set also comes with a limited edition, exclusive 18'x24' full color replica poster from the bands beginnings, recreated just for this boxset.

Article on three bands that would not exist if it weren't for U2, or want to be like them, or pretend to be them:

I have succumbed and ordered the special edition boxset from amazon.[8D] As for the article above saying those 3 bands were influenced by U2 i find it weird that anyone can compare Radiohead to U2 i hear no similarities in their music at all because i have yet to listen to a U2 album where it's a constant drone all the way through granted their have been a few crap U2 albums but they haven't been as depressing as a Radiohead album (I love OK Computer btw). The Killers were influenced by New Order. They actually got their name from the fictional band in the video for Crystal. Out of the three i would say Coldplay do sometimes sound like U2 mostly on their x & y album i might add.

I think stuff like U2's 1978 "Street Mission" says a lot:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Qe6VtCRTvsU&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Qe6VtCRTvsU&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

To me it says this was shite U2 when they were sort of a copied mix of New York art rock with a dash of punk for fake cred. This was before they dropped in a liberal dose of Springsteen to arena-fy and explode "their sound" unto the world. It was certainly a nice sound from Boy through War. After that, meh for me. Sure, I'll say that The Killers and Coldplay copied U2, but only in a back-handed manner that acknowledges how poor even that statement is.

Radiohead is way off base. U2 started being derivative and found a hit, music-by-numbers formula. Radiohead may have started a bit formulaically but then started experimenting - some good, some bad - but at least give them that credit.
