OMD: Sight and Sound

[obs]

[i]> The only problem they seem to have now is the mashup may not be on it due to some problem with Sony.[/i]

Wow, Sony actually doing the customers a favour?!?

[clarence]

has anyone seen this available for pre-order anywhere yet?

More details on the forthcoming new OMD compilation: Messages – OMD Greatest Hits 30 Years In Sight & Sound (CDVX 3050) will be a combination of CD and DVD. The package will be released on 22nd September 2008. A digital download will also be made available via some outlets.

The DVD will feature 31 OMD promotional videos centred around their singles of choice. This marks the first time that all of the promo videos have been released on DVD, many of them are very rare and includes Red Frame/White Light - the 'lost' promo video. Hold You was previously availble on the video Crush The Movie. Joan Of Arc had no promo video filmed at the time (as it was a UK release) so its place is taken with an appearance on the UK music show Top Of The Pops instead.

I take it from that revised tracklisting the mashup that was supposed to be on the CD looks like it's been ditched. I just hope after this they remaster the next 3 OMD albums. Sugar Tax needs remastered badly as the sound of the original is crap. Liberator they don't need to bother with that cause it was mince.

Amazon US now has this listed as a pre-order for $25.49 USD with a street date of 30 September.

[Blakeh]

Amazon US has had the release available for pre-order since last week for $22.99. Looks like they just raised the price today. I'm betting Amazon UK will have it for less (even after shipping).

[Sean]

Amazon.co.uk still doesn't have this listed. That worries me.

[obs]

It's listed at Amazon.de for 19EUR.

Does anyone know what the actual release date is? I've seen Sept. 22 and I've seen Sept. 30.

Also, are they releasing this in the US?

from the OMD website:

"The release date for the Messages album has been put back to 29th September. The delays have been due to issues securing the rights for the 'mash-up' track Dazzle Ships At The River (which is now no longer on the album) and also the quality of the remaster of Electricity.

All the tracks on the album have been remastered, with most being sourced from the 1998 remasters used on The OMD Singles album."

The 29th sep is going to be an expensive day for some people with those New Order and 808 State remasters being released as well.[:)]

from the OMD website

"OMD have been asked to perform at the Stars of Europe concert for UNICEF later this month. The performance will be with the Night Of The Promo orchestra and the band are planning to perform Enola Gay and Maid Of Orleans.

The free concert is due to take place on 19th September at the Atomium in Brussels on 19th September. The band are waiting on definite confirmation however."

I emailed this info to my friend in Brussels who replied:

"Yes, indeed, there is a festival, actuall an outdoor TV show for the 50th anniversary of the Euroepan treaty.

Official guests are : Zucchero, Axelle Red, Maurane, Simply Red, Scala, Laurent voulzy, The Scorpions, Hooverphonic, Helmut Lotti, Ozark Henry, Kate Ryan, Kim Wilde, Miguel Angel Munoz, les Gypsy King, Nadiya, Lou Bega, Nana Mouskouri, Las Ketchup, Cerrone, Maria Ilieva and more.... OMd ?

The Atomium is in my backyard, I will be able to hear from my house..."

That's going to be one diverse crowd of music lovers.

Yeah, no kidding. And with the Blancmange and Thompson Twins, this has been a remastered filled year.

I hope that includes the DVD. A couple of the earlier videos were mono (on the Best of VHS).
