New Order Remasters

Postby DJ Phoenix » Sat Nov 15, 2008 7:47 pm

Great news! Maybe we can send our old ones back to them or something(when the new onee are released)& they replace them, and send them back to us? I definitely want them still, just the fixed ones. Thanks for the heads up and keep us posted.

I too purchased the 2 of the remasters. I have PCL and Low Life!!
I will be getting Brotherhood and or Movement have not yet decided. I will not touch Technique with a 10 foot pole with all the bad reviews about that disc (I will take their word on that one).
I really do not see too many of the glitch issues that the New Order blog found... (over 300 Glitches in the collection. You must have to listen to the music ultrasonically to hear the discovered defects. The Sudden drop out on Sunrise right when it starts cranking is annoying
I put the discs on Sound Forge and analyzed the areas.. many times I ahd trouble finding them. Remember on the early CD's there was a disclaimer warning that when duplicating analogue to digital it will reveal limitations on the master. So what are they supposed to do re-do the original on the master?? I do absolutely agree that if they use Vinyl to source their material they should add a disclaimer before purchasing so that indeed you know what you are buying. I listen to the all the discs as a whole and I found the glitches were very subtle and not overall annoying at all. I do offer a link of the a 5 second sample of the beginning of The Perfect Kiss 12" so that everyone can hear the glitches in question. The ones most recognizable are the one in the beginning...and Sunrise drop out

Here are sound files -- you decide--

Sunrise -- 2:36 second dropout

In a way DJ Phoenix that is the point.. These are the areas where the all annoying glitches are. It is not that bad really..
I can only speak for Power Corruption and Low Life so far.
I will say the dropout is the obvious in the right channel of Sunrise. The Perfect kiss if you listen carefully in the middle of the 4 second sample you will hear a vague sound of a record rumble but you can only really hear it when you are tuning way too deeply into it--- like staring into a stereogram.

Those are both pretty bad. You have to turn the volume up on The Perfect Kiss but it is definitely there and definitely a vinyl rip. [xx(]

sorry , but i can only *LOL* about all those rather silly "audiophiles" , who on the one hand love the sound of good ol' analog vinyl records - like i do too btw [;)] - , but on the other hand complain about the slightest noise of a vinyl groove on a cd ! [:p]

get a REAL life , u sad nitpickers ! [}:)]

It's not a case of getting a life if you pay for something with vinyl rips on it without them telling you. Why would you want to pay for something like this when you could rip your own vinyl and make a hell of a lot better job than those cowboys have managed. They have also used vinyl rips for songs that were released on CD before wtf is that about. Maybe if they had stated the fact that they were going to use vinyl rips then people would have had the choice wether or not to buy these or not.

Yep, it's all about full disclosure. I even do it with my torrents, if I know there's a glitch on the original CD.

I didn't hear as many as they claimed either, but I heard enough to not want these ... or rather, I heard enough to not want to pay money for these.

It's not really nitpicking as they are obvious flaws. Did I say that I love the good old analogue vinyl? I prefer well mastered CDs from their source tapes. It does not take an audiophile to know that every time you copy something from one format to another, you lose quality. An 'nth generation tape would be better than vinyl but the point is, it's still not as good as a master tape. If you can have something without clicks, pops, groove noise, speed issues, warped vinyl and any other myriad of problems, I'd take it. A good example of decent vinyl mastering is The Wake's "Here Comes Everybody." While it doesn't say on the outside it is from vinyl, it does tell you in the liner notes that they looked for the tapes and believe they were either lost or destroyed.

And that's not a "slight noise" you are talking about. Those are very obvious vinyl rip sounds.

LOL at this whole episode. Who's to blame? Umm, New Order, that's who. It's not like they are "busy". But they let this stuff get rushed out without bothering to check on quality. Of course this whole controversy is now getting them some free advertising via The Guardian, so maybe they planned it all along.

For those who don't peruse the official New Order forums, here are a couple of replies from Rhino:
http://www.neworderonline.com/Forums/Me ... ageIndex=5

Warner Bros. UK, Rhino and New Order regret that the initial pressings of the Collector Editions of "Movement", "Power, Corruption & Lies", "Low-Life", "Brotherhood" and "Technique" contain some minor audio problems on the bonus discs. We are now in the process of correcting the problems, but it should be noted that due to the age and condition of some of the original source tapes, the sound quality may vary. A further statement will be issued once the corrected product is available. At that time, the procedure for exchanging CD's will be announced. Thank you for your patience while we resolve this situation.

What are they going to do take all the corrupted disc from the shelves and what about all those people who bought them in the first place will they get the opportunity to get theirs replaced. Had to laugh about Collector Editions of "Movement", "Power, Corruption & Lies", "Low-Life", "Brotherhood" and "Technique" contain some minor audio problems on the bonus discs. Who are they trying to kid.

oh dear ... jus' SHUT THE FUCK UP & PISS OFF , barmy - seriously ! [:(!]

fyi : hooky is not only busy with his own new band freebass currently , but also plays live on tour with his good ol' mates of section 25 & still cares for the fans , which u certainly AREN'T , u dimwit !

however ... here's what he wrote concerning the reissues already about a month ago in his myspace blog :

"NEW ORDER RE-RELEASES UPDATE!
This is a very difficult one , we are aware of the problems and because we did not have finished product to listen to? It has, shall we say……. slipped through the net?? My great friend claude flowers has taken it on himself to sort this mess out personally, but please be aware , that after the fact it is going to be very difficult, unfortunately because many of you have purchased them already ( a great compliment in itself) we are doing all we can to try and get fresh masters made and available , somehow ? to try and remedy the situation, so please bear with us.
I have said before how difficult it is compiling this stuff, the masters steve and I listened to, were all basically from people's collections, so it was then left to someone? In the library department to compile, as much as possible from original masters, this is where it seems to have gone wrong , unfortunately it is industry standard these days to not have production masters of the cd's or the sleeves, much to pete saville's amazement, but that's just the way it is , hopefully they might resurrect the process after this. Here's hoping, hooky."

For those who purchased the initial reissues, look at the brightside, you now are the proud owners of a re-called product, which in some cases can increase their value. Especially if the new versions have a different catalog number, the bad versions were pulled of the shelves - destroyed and a very limited amount were sold...

Given the opportunity, how many of you are actually going to exchange them????
