i had the first three of these. great music, but nothing too rare.

now: do you guys remember "debut" music magazine? it had an album tucked into it, and gorgeous color spreads on the artists. super heavy on the new wave and british. i got lots of fashion tips from it!

Didn't this series have a specific year attached to each title? Is this the 1983 version?

The series didn't go too deep, but at least is featured stuff not on the usual compilations. Until the recent U2 remasters, the 1982 disc was the only place to get U2's "A Celebration" on cd.

If I'm not mistaken, years weren't attached to the series until they began issuing them on CD. The original compilations, including the one listed above, were on double vinyl! I also think they came out twice a year. I had the first 8 volumes on vinyl back in the day.

I only had 3 or 4

I got the first one.

I also got the one with "Suzanna" by the Art Company.

That song features on very few compilations.

The albums came out every few months so it usually worked out to 3 or 4 a year. NTWICM volume 1 was released Dec 83 and volume 2 came out in April 84. This set brings back great memories. Double Dutch and Rocksteady Crew are the only two I don't have on CD so it's not worthwhile for me to purchase it.

Volume 2 has 8 songs I don't have on CD yet so I will have to get that one.
