Some Bizarre Album

I hadn't noticed until now that this cult classic comp was reissued this year. Bonus tracks are drawn from those originally considered for the LP. Missing unfortunately is a track before the B-Movie one, an early untitled The The song - likely licensing issues:

1. Tidal Flow - Illustration
2. Photographic - Depeche Mode
3. Moles - B-Movie
4. I Dare Say This Will Hurt a Little - Jell
5. Central Park - Blah Blah Blah
6. Sad Day - Blancmange
7. Girl with the Patent Leather Face - Soft Cell
8. Lust of Berlin - Neu Electrikk
9. Femme - Naked Lunch
10. King of Rumbling Spires - The Fast Set
11. Observations - Loved One
12. Warm Leatherette [*] - The Normal
13. Back to Nature [*] - Fad Gadget
14. Act of Being Polite [*] - The Residents
15. Act of Being Polite [*][Multimedia Track] - The Residents

It took me years to find a copy of this on vinyl (at a price I was willing to pay). Now I have to go and get the cd as well?!?

I have an order of stuff split between amazon.com and amazon.ca because a lot of what I want isn't available on amazon.ca

Some Bizarre Album is $US 22 on amazon.com and $C 21 on amazon.ca, even though the $C is worth maye 80 cents US. How does that work?

The Nerves CD is $US 17 but a whopping $C 27!

It's not bad as a time capsule of some interesting tracks....I got it from a friend on cd for $5 12 years ago and never really listen to it.

I've always wondered who Blah Blah Blah were. According to discogs.com they even released an entire LP in 1981!

No you aren't blind. The tracklisting that's there is wrong but if you look at the back cover you will see that The The track listed.

I've never heard many of these tracks. the tracks by lesser known artists, what genre of new wave would you all say they are? are they synthpop, more industrial, experimental electronic, alternative rock? Are there any outstanding new wave tracks that should have been big hits in your opinion?

To be honest it is quite diverse , some experimental but a lot of it is quite primitive electronic stuff, In my mind the version of photographic by Depeche mode on this is far superior but less polished than the version on speak and spell, Tidal flow has a sound like early ultravox and the soft cell track is very basic but good. The blancmange track is a quite a differrent version than the one on HAppy families but still very good. In all it is a very good collection of tracks that highlight a certain period in electronic music that was excellent and quite experimental (hope that helps)

thanks thunderbird2. Sounds like it might not be polished enough overall for my tastes. I'm more into electronic new wave that is also well crafted full vocal pop music. For instance, Gary Numan's "Cars" is the only song of its kind on the Pleasure Principle album, most of the other stuff on that album is too robotic and cold for my tastes. Not into the experimental minimal stuff.

The last time I DJ-ed a friend's B-day party, one of the guests requested a Soft Cell song, so I got out the Some Bizarre album and cued up "Girl With The..." and the guy just about flew out of his pants because not only was that his favorite song by Soft Cell, he shit a brick when he saw the album I was spinning...
