You'd be surprised at Manchester's "Mathematics"--certainly faux-wave, but very interesting. I don't think it's an accident that this is the only album from her otherwise vanilla catalogue that's never been on CD.

yeah, i was only half-serious- i begrudgingly admit there were lots of pop acts that dabbled fairly decently in new wave. hell, lindsey buckingham's first two solo albums are great "new wave"- as is stuff like laura branigan's "self control" and kim carnes' "bette davis eyes". hell, donna summer's "wanderer" is better than lots of bonafide new wave girl stuff. YEP, I SAID IT.

EMI has been on a reissue blitz over the past few years, with remasters/bonus tracks editions coming out from Heaven 17, Killing Joke, Japan, etc.

On that note how about:

China Crisis - the entire back catalogue could do for a remaster/bonus tracks treatment with a "Sight & Sound" Best of as a lead-in to the project.

Sheena Easton also had some pretty good electronic songs on her albums that were very faux wave. Kim Carnes, sadly, was totally overlooked after Bette Davis Eyes, and she had some of the best synthpop records between 82 and 86.

Meanwhile, more reissue wishes:

Plus One (+1) - Young Europeans LP
and the discography of The Sound

1) most (if not all) of The Sound albums were issued on Renascant(sp?) a few years ago. Not sure if they are still in print.

2) Which Kim Carnes albums are you referring to?

the Sound's renaissance reissues are all out of print and selling for hundreds of dollars.

Kim Carnes albums between 82 and 86 would be:

Voyeur
Cafe Racers
Abadabadango

All of them were reissued a few years back with plenty of 12" versions and bonus tracks.

The Sound's back catalogue is out of print excpet for:

Propoganda
The BBC Sessions
The Dutch Radio Sessions (5 discs)

Thunder Up, their final album, is still in print but in its orignal CD release - it has never been remastered and expanded.

Why their back catalogue was allowed to go out of print is a mystery.

a collection of the Scary Thieves 7" versions, 12" versions, and b-sides would be a treat.

The entire catalog of Mobile Homes albums and singles.

Boytronic's albums after the change over of band members.

The entire Machinations catalog.

I keep saying it, the best band to never have their stuff issued on CD, "The Hawks" with their self-titled debut and "30 Seconds Over Otho." Also the two Laughing Dogs LPs.

Maybe this isn't issue for this topic, but I would like to hear Your opinions about 180g vinyl reissues. Yesterday I saw in nearby store JAM's "In the city" first LP on "highest quality" 180g vinyl. And there's more to come, P.I.L. "First Edition", "Second Edition" or Metal Box etc...It's emotionally tempting and brings back good old memories, but...

Do You feel that this is another musical industry's scam or welcome return to basics?

As many, I've had a huge collection of vinyls, but in the early 80' I sold them almost all and replace with "little, practic, indestructible, enduring piece of plastic", except some rarities (lucky me). Short time after, first expanded and remastered reissues appeared with welcome bonuses (EPs, singles), and of course I bought them and replace "old" CD's. In some cases, We have almost "third generation" of remasters, but now is obvious that some of albums We'll never see on CD's, not to mention on "new vinyl".

Or to paraphrase John Lydon..."Ever Feel Like You've Been Cheated?"
