Bauhaus/ Fall/ This Mortal Coil reissues

Bauhaus/ Fall/ This Mortal Coil reissues

Postby thefxc » Mon Jul 27, 2009 12:15 am

Courtesy of the Slicing Up Eyeballs blog. It looks like Beggars Banquet/4AD are busy...

Bauhaus's Mask will be a 3CD set, including a disc of rarities and a live CD. In the Flat Field will be a 2CD, including rarities. And it looks like a lot of the rarities are actually rare...

This Mortal Coil's albums will be remastered; no word on bonus tracks but a boy can dream. Their first 12" single has never been on CD, and they have at least one B-side that has never been legally digitized.

The Wonderful and Frightening World of the Fall and This Nation's Saving Grace will be reissued with extra goodies--the five of you who are Fall fans may rejoice.

Looks good. I'm still holding out for a Wolfgang Press reissue program.

Here's hoping Beggars/4AD will deliver the goods with the following bands in their arsenal:

Love & Rockets
Modern English
Lush
Pale Saints
Dif Juz
Peter Murphy

Even though they have done remasters for both Love & Rockets and Modern English, it would be nice to open the vault up for unreleased stuff (demos, radio sessions, etc).

Makes sense since they are reissuing the Cult's Love again and the Bauhaus catalog has already been given the reissue treatment in the past.

And yes, count me in as a Fall fan, so that makes six...

Sweet news, thefxc! I would definitely be interested in these reissues, esp. the ones by This Mortal Coil.

And yeah, I'm totally with you on Wolfgang Press. *crosses fingers and prays to whatever music god*

I too seek favor for the Music God.

4AD's generally done well with reissues, but Wolfgang Press must have pissed someone off or something. Some key songs of theirs have never been on CD--notably the "Kansas" 12" and their early EP tracks that were remixed for Legendary Wolfgang Press. Other than that horrible compilation from 7-8 years ago they haven't done much with their catalogue. It took forever to get Burden of Mules on CD! And to think they've made Mass and Rema Rema available...

I could say the same about Colourbox but I'll let it go for now...I would like a clean copy of "Sex Gun" tho....

Would be nice if Beggars remastered the rest of The Icicle Works albums giving them the same treatment as the first. Wishful thinking no doubt.[:(]

I assume that extra Bauhaus CD is only available if you order direct from Beggars?

It would be nice if they also reissued the Lonely Is An Eyesore comp. Maybe expand it with the accompanying videos.

From the Beggars Banquet archive site:

The Omnibus Bauhaus releases of In The Flat Field and Mask are beginning to be available for pre-order online (release 19 October). Though they are limited editions there’s no need to order so soon as we’ll be offering a very competitive deal if you purchase both sets through this site and we will include a free bonus CD of additional unreleased tracks that won’t be available elsewhere.

We’ll also guarantee that you get the box sets if demand outstrips supply! Fulfillment will be by a third party specialist and hopefully we’ll be able to take orders very shortly.

PS – We’ve had a finished sample in and I’m delighted that it has met with all the exacting specifications. The box is robust and well finished, the book is on a good stock and perfect bound, there’s a 2 mm spine on the CD sleeves – something I’ve not been able to get from European print companies who make them too wide or with no spine at all – the inner sleeves are good and the discs are protected in a plastic jacket. Well fantastish.

Additionally, the newly mixed live album included in the Mask Omnibus edition is to be issued separately on double album by Vinyl 180 – for those of you who like old school plastic. BTW, this is a brilliant recording – very visceral.

Is there any reason to buy the Bauhaus reissues? They are getting mixed reviews.

Depends on your reason for buying. I am very happy with them and at £15 each I think they are a steal considering what you are getting for your money.

For: Plenty of unreleased versions of tracks, fantastic packaging and accompanying books, very detailed info on recording sessions. Value for money: the packaging and accompanying books are great, a lot of effort has gone into these sets. Hats off to all involved who brought this to completion. (Next: The Sky's Gone Out, hint, hint...)

Against: Many of the unreleased versions are obviously not as good as the 'released' versions. If all you want is the original recordings sans b sides/out-takes etc then previous issues will probably be fine.

In terms of sonics, what I've heard so far sounds fine.
