Devo - Are We Not Men & Freedom Of Choice Deluxe

Devo - Are We Not Men & Freedom Of Choice Deluxe

Postby BigManRestless » Wed Sep 16, 2009 5:56 am

DEVO have signed a unique, ground-breaking worldwide partnership with their original label home Warner Bros. Records that exhibits the band's long-time commitment to innovation in all aspects of their career. In the '80s, the band put the "new" in the music revolution labeled "New Wave" with their synergistic mix of electronic rock, unparalleled theatrical live shows, and self-directed, groundbreaking music-videos - creating a multi-media art assault that resonates in contemporary pop culture. Now DEVO continue to pioneer new territory by exclusively teaming with Warner Bros. Records to internationally service all aspects of the band's career, including recorded music, touring, merchandising, web services, promotion, ecommerce, sponsorships, licensing, and endorsements.

"Devo have been called everything from geniuses to deviants and have always been ahead of their time," says Elyse Rogers, SVP of Touring and Artist Development at WBR. "They are brilliant multi-media innovators who express themselves through far more than just recorded music. Their videos, live shows, merchandise, and visual attack are as big a part of their art as the music is. We could not be more excited to continue to break new artistic ground with them while working to redefine the evolving music-industry paradigm."

"We are excited to embark on DEVO's latest sonic subversion with the label that first unleashed us on the unsuspecting public," says the band's Gerald Casale. "De-evolution is real!" Adds Mark Mothersbaugh: "We wouldn't be doing it if it weren't in our genes!"

Warner Bros. Records released six of DEVO's classic albums between the years of 1978 and 1984. To mark the band's new deal, the label will reissue deluxe CD and limited-edition coloredvinyl versions of DEVO's 1978's gold debut Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! and 1980's platinum favorite Freedom of Choice, as well as a seven-inch vinyl single of "Jocko Homo/Mongoloid" on November 3rd.

it is about time! Great news. This year has been fantastic for re-releases and remasters. With the exception of the New Order debacle of course.

Devo have spent the past 25 years bitching about how Warners ass-raped them, and how their Warner years made them miserable and poor.

And now this?

And yet Warners still took them back, isn't that great?

Maybe some of it will be stuff from Recombo DNA? At least for Freedom Of Choice.

I'm not aware of any demos for Are We Not Men, unless the Hardcore stuff counts. Be nice to have the 3 Stiff / Booji Boy singles added.

since these are for the general public and not so much the hardcore collector it will probably be the usuals that many of us have, plus things like the single remix of "snowball" and the bside (recently dug up by rhino for the itunes 45-single series) "turn around."

however: i'd watch for things like the alternate "whip it" demo, the alternate "turn around" demo, and "red shark," which became "it's not right." all three of these are recently unearthed gems that are downloads you get with the purchase of tickets to the band's album concerts this fall: they are doing an album a night of both of these releases, which is frankly THRILLING.

to hear "shrivel up"? "snowball"? "too much paranoias"? "cold war"? AND LIVE? sheesh!

what a great year for them, and devo fans.

Their website lists an 11/3/09 date for the first of the "remasters". I sure hope someone can find an updated tracklisting for whatever will be released next month?

Also, anyone know if they'll be adding some more west coast dates to their tour?

If this truly does not include Turn Around, I have no intention of buying it. I will continue to hold onto my old UK 2 on 1 since it's included there.

Darn Warner Bros., if we'd wanted Devo Live, we would get Devo Live. We want the rare b-sides and unreleased tracks. How about even a dvd with rare tv appearances. Pinkyblue82 is right, boring!

Yep, my UK 2 on 1's won't be replaced by these unfortunately. Big missed opportunity here.
