Duran Duran: Rio (2 CD Special Edition)/Live Hamme

Postby budaniel » Tue Apr 21, 2009 12:34 am

ok, from what i can tell at this point, having the Singles box and Strange Behaviour, I pretty much have everything worthy of having on this reissue. I'm probably going to skip it--I'll never sit and watch a Duran Duran concert on DVD (never even wanted to see them live) and am not a fan of live tracks.

Just heard this was pushed back...is that true? Also, is it safe to assume that eventually we'll see the re-release of Arcadia-So red the rose? or possibly even the box set? If anything needs to be "re-released" it's certainly that.

Yes, both pushed back to September 22. There was talk a couple of years ago of an Arcadia reissue with a DVD (just like the Power Station one) but it vanished. I wish it would happen.

For anyone in NYC - The Strand bookstore near Union Square has sealed copies of both the CD and the DVD for about $14.95 each!

I just received the DVD/CD set today. Haven't had the chance to check it out yet. From the writing on the package (DVD/CD edition), as well as the catalogue number (DDLIVE X 82), there will probably be a DVD-only release down the road.

The Rio re-release is great, also. As I mentioned in another thread, the first CD is the original album/vinyl version, which is slightly different from the previous two CD releases (specifically, Hold Back the Rain).

I don't care for the packaging, though. The hardback book is nice, complete with the same textured cardboard that the original UK pressing of Rio had, but the discs just slip into what is basically two pages glued together. One of my discs had glue on it. Luckily, it came off with some rubbing alcohol.

As above, I think subsequent pressings will be a single disc, as the two disc set is "Limited Edition".

This was really well done in my opinion, exactly how a special edition should be. This is how the Depeche Mode and Cure reissues should have been done as well: LP, single versions, 12" mixes, and b-sides spread out over 2 discs (or 3 if needed). Too bad.

Does anyone find the remastering to be at all shrill? I just finally picked up a copy, and I'm only listening to disc 2 so far, and some of the night versions sound really tinny. Hungry Like the Wolf was the worst of the bunch.

ugh! I can't believe they have a Simon Lebon spoken holiday message attached to the end of the carnival mix of Hold Back the Rain! SO glad I have the track on another Duran Duran compilation.

> Does anyone find the remastering to be at all shrill?

The three remastered albums sound top and bottom heavy, to my ears.

Well, it's easy enough to edit out on a computer. But this release finally made me realize that the Carnival Version is different from the 12" version of Hold Back the Rain. [:o)]
