Interesting stuff being released these days

Interesting stuff being released these days

Just a general blip about how I've noticed some pretty obscure stuff popping up these days from major labels. It kind of gives me hope and it looks good for other re-releases to start showing up. Pylon anybody!?!?!

With the late 80's - early 90's Pere Ubu's being released remastered in 2007 (with bonus tracks and great sound) by Mercury of all things... to something really marginal as the Butthole Surfers spinoff "P" being put out again by Capitol Records in 2007... I must say I am impressed!!!

Those indie labels which were long gone or struggling 15-20 years ago like Ze, Some Bizzare, and Rough Trade are all healthier than ever. Their websites are up and running with (in the case of Rough Trade) even more exclusive 80's remasters to buy. It may just be a matter of time before we see the Universal folks tapping into that massive IRS catalog.

I think ebay is getting the record companies attention. If people were willing to pay 40 bucks for a copy of Pere Ubu's - Cloudland on CD... then perhaps they realize they should re-release it to the public. The major labels must be seriously hard up for cash and this whole slow CD sales thing may be playing in our favor. Thoughts? Perspectives?
