Did you see Moulin Rouge?

Postby MARV » Wed Mar 16, 2005 1:45 am

I saw it last night for the first time and all I could do while watching was think of all adjectives i would use to describe it:

smart
witty
dreamy
colorful
dimensional
over the top
campy
visually spectacular
clever

I guess you could say I kind of liked it, lol! Really, this took me by surprise. It came out what, 4 years ago? And I never even seriously considered it. Glad i finally did, though I feel like I missed the boat but who cares? On my 50" LCD with surround sound, this thing blew me away with it's rich production and muscial intelligence. I'm sorry, but this movie "owned" me.

Oh, and Ewan McGregor? Clearly one of the more gifted actors of his generation.

What did you guys think of it?

Honestly I can't bring myself to watch it. It just doesn't seem very appealing to me. I will see what others have to say and then maybe I will change my mind.

I pooh-poohed it at first, but when i finally saw it i thought the same thing as you marv. Ewan Mcgregor did a great job and it was pretty cool hearing modern songs sung in that fasion. The visuals were awesome as well. You should watch it Green, good stu

I was forced to watch this in the first row of the local multiplex. It was like watching an overly long, visually arresting music video but after it ended it was like......."who cares." An example of a very well done yet still bad movie. I watched it i

Oh, the other thing I was thinking while watching this is how much did they shell out to use all the songs that were sung in the movie. There must have been 30 popular songs throughout including Elton John, Madonna and Nirvana. That can't be cheap! Som

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. The licensing costs alone must have been equal to the cost of a first rate actor. The soundtrack itself was like an actor in the movie, a personality.

My favorite was the Latino narcoleptic. So funny. It's like his

Yeah, I need to buy the soundtrack also. There's more than one version? I have Baz Luhrman's "Something For Everybody" CD which I love and is what motivated me to get Moulin Rouge. I think I need to check out his other flicks. His is a unique creativity.

You should see Velvet Goldmine Kimiiii, for more of Ewan's singing and acting. He plays an American androgynous seventies glam rock star. Good flick. I also liked him in Trainspotting. And Down With Love - LOVED THIS MOVIE! Hysterical, highly recommended.

I could barely get through the frenetic, MTV-editing of the first 30 minutes of this film, but it more-or-less delivered in the end. Ewan MacGregor and Nicole Kidman proved that they had decent singing voices. I'm not really familiar with Baz Luhrmann's o

Well, I guess you have to start by liking musicals, this is true. West Side Story, Sound of Music, bring 'em on - I love 'em![:p]
