Ha ha. I doubt you'd find it with either. It is actually a work of the Catholic Church in which they describe the ways to interrogate, sentence, and punish (in other words, EXECUTE) supposed witches.

Um, yes, I'm well aware of that [:D] But I think there is a certain type of collector who would be interested in it for other reasons . . .

Shuvie-shuv-shuvs.....I expect more from a higher education scholar like yourself. While the Malleus Maleficarum was written by Heinrich Kramer and Jacob Sprenger, two members of the Dominican Order and Inquisitors for the Catholic Church, it was immediately condemned in 1487 (the year of it's first publication) by the University of Cologne's Faculty of Theology on unethical and illegal grounds. The Catholic Church subsequently banned the book in 1490, placing it on the Index Librorum Prohibitorum.

But it is good resource material to enforce an obtuse philosophical grudge against the Catholic church. Some might say witch hunt.....

I already got two presents, one I wanted and one that was a great surprise. The one I wanted was tickets to see Duran Duran in Austin on Dec 11 from my mother-in-law for my wife and I, and my wife got me a hand made coffee mug with a drawn picture of my cat that is dying of cancer on it. My wife wrote a little saying for it and that was a great present.

And so your point is...? Your statement still maintains the fact that it was written for the Catholic Church, commissioned by none other than Pope Innocent the VIII, and was an instruction manual for the interrogation, sentencing and punishment of supposed witches.

As for your choice of the word "obtuse", I respectfully refute it. To suggest that the words and actions of the Catholic Church do not to this day effect people (positively and, more specifically, negatively) is in itself an obtuse viewpoint.

Witch hunt indeed. The Inquisition officially closed in 1834, at which time between 100,000- 5 million people were killed. 85% were female. These numbers do not include those who died during interrogation, they merely reflect official executions.

But this is depressing information! This post is about Christmas and presents!

Let there be peace on earth and joy to the world. Where's my spiked eggnog?! [:)]

So what if it was written for the Cath. church? It was immediately condemned and banned. You make no sense. That's like saying Georgie Rockwood wrote something for the New Wave Outpost therefore it's representative of New Wave.

Okay, in answer to your question let me once again clarifiy my point:

Despite the "official" view of the "Index" The Malleus was nevertheless widely distributed, read, and referenced with many dates of publication. To say that because the Church officially denounced it and to assume by this "fact" that it was not still widely utilized is to look at the drug laws of the United States of America, read that marijuana is illegal and then to assume that people don't smoke it!!

Inquisitors continued to use the "manual," as indicated by its prolific publication.
Who else would? The farmers??

See the reference below:

The Catholic Church banned the book in 1490, placing it on the Index Librorum Prohibitorum. Despite this, the Malleus Maleficarum became the de-facto handbook for witch-hunters and Inquisitors throughout Late Medieval Europe. Between the years 1487 and 1520, it was published thirteen times, and between 1574 to 1669 it was again published sixteen times. The papal bull and endorsements which appear at the beginning of the book contributed to its popularity by giving the illusion that it (subsequent publications) had been granted approval by Pope Innocent VIII.
The Malleus Maleficarum perhaps owes most of its popularity to Johannes Gutenberg. It was the invention of the printing press in the middle of the fifteenth century that allowed the work to spread so rapidly throughout Europe.

So yes, if a Georgie Rockwood craze took over NWO, it wouldn't matter that he is Librorum Prohibitorum here, the people who favor him would be inspired by his "work" nonetheless. (Eeew! Now THAT'S a scary thought!)

To say that it was the work of the Catholic Church is disingenuous because they immediately discredited, condemned and banned it. Any Papal endorsements are inauthentic and the work of the book's authors. Is speaking in half truths the standard in your place of higher learning?
