Do they use toilet paper in China? In middle East they think toilet paper is dirty and just use their hand instead, since they're oging to wash them anyway and all... Or do they still use that lambs wool on a stick thing?

Having lived in Iran in from 73-78, I have to dispute this claim. While most Iranians I know prefer to use a bidet (and then TP to dry off), we always had TP around, as did every home I ever visited. I'm pretty sure I'd remember sticking my hand in my shit-covered crack if it ever happened. We did poop in the porcelain hole in the ground, though. I still think squatting is a much more natural position for crapping than chilling on a chair with a hole in it.

Yeah, but try it in a skirt, pantyhose, and high heels!

I am grateful that my office has a nice, private one-holer in the basement that no one else knows about. This girl likes her privacy.

Although why Americans haven't adopted the bidet, I don't know. And we call the French dirty!

I try and stay away from having to use public restrooms, and sometimes you just have to go... here's a couple of ways to keep working at the office while your there...
^good to know!^.
2002 was the last time we visited. (though last time in Estonia was some time before that, I think 1997 during our honeymoon.) Our eyes really goggled the last time we were there and saw real TP in the stores, altho we weren't sure if people could really afford it. We ex-Peace Corps volunteers have shared lots of Baltic bathroom stories, esp. those bus and train stations. Though I have to say Lithuania and Latvia were always the worst. Estonia was never as bad. Particularly in Tallinn and Parnu. I certainly do not mean to slander the Baltics at all. [:I] But Some of that Latvian TP was like Grit 80!

Ha Ha Ha! No, you are absolutley correct. In the early nineties at least, in Estonia (and definitely in Latvia and Lithuania) that was so definitely the case. Everything was either not to be found or extremely sub-par. I know very well about the TP seemingly made from birch bark. Thankfully this has changed a great deal - In Estonia at least. I haven't been on a day trip to Latvia in a while, but the next time I will be sure to snag some soft Finnish TP before I do.

I once went on a pre-paid weekend outing to the mirelands of Hüpassaare and quickly realized our why our guide was so interested in the texture of the sphagnum. I was thinking initially - maybe he's some sort of flora afficianado or a botanist or something. I was very very wrong. Things they forget to tell you before you hand over cash.
Does anyone have this? Are you one of those people who refuse to take a crap in a public restroom such as a resturaunt or store. If you are away from home will you make an out of the way trip back just to pinch one off? I certainly am no fan of public crappers but when you gotta go you gotta go. I am sure there is a phobia name attached to this, they got one for just about everything nowdays.

The Poop Report (hi fanciz!) calls them "Shameful Shitters." And, no, I am not one. Unless it's a hole in the ground. Then the out-of-the-way trip starts to look mighty appealing.

You know, if I worked in some big office complex and there was the possibility that someone else could get blamed for my business, I'd go when I needed to. But I'm in an office of 4 now, a tiny office, and there's no hiding anything--noise, smell, etc.

We do have some nifty strawberry-scented spray in the bathroom, but I still can't bring myself to do it. Then, not only would everyone know that I just unloaded in there, the whole office would smell like someone crapped in a strawberry patch. So, no. I just suffer until I get home. [:D]

Ditto that! When I lived in Japan for three years, I got pretty comfortable squatting over a porcelain hole in the floor--that is, after I ruined a couple pair of shoes (in our culture, only little boys are taught to aim!). But I hated to use that type of toilet if I wore a skirt, pantihose, heels, and often, also a coat. It was crazy complicated to keep all that clothing from dragging into the muck (plus, the floor is always wet) while hovering and holding my balance and trying not to step into the hole. I often saw bathroom stalls where the previous user missed the hole completely when taking a dump (must have been a "gaijin"--foreigner). The poop was piled up at the rear, completely outside of the hole. Oh, boy, somebody left a gift. [xx(]

To answer the original question, if I'm away from home, I'll do it, but only if absolutely necessary. I hate to do it away from home, but I'm not going to make myself ill waiting to get to my own bathroom. First I scout for the best location, as far out of the way as possible. I'm certainly not going to do it in a high traffic location or where the restroom door opens right into an office or restaurant. I also take care to minimize the evidence. I flush frequently, both for odor control and sound masking. And I always carry wipes in my purse. And then I get the heck out of there!

BMG, you're too funny.

When I first bought my house I had construction guys from hell. They are famouse for crapping in spakle buckets. In my case, they kept crapping in my toilet and I had no water! I told them 100 times to go to the corner diner and even gave them money. So I come home one night to the worst stench you ever smelled. It was like a dinosaur crapped in the toilet. I unbolted it,shit and all, and took it to the formans house and left it on his front stoop. Very true story. (I have a bit of an anger problem sometimes)
