Is this for real?
I came across this account making reference to TFF's 'Shout' on (of all things) a Rock Music Site.
Seriously, have you or anyone you know of been similarly affected/ moved (in a positive way) by a particular song or piece of music? (NW or NNNW)
My personal believe is that rock songs have saved many people's lives. And I am not talking about Live Aid or Farm Aid. I am talking about people in depression out of which they came with the help of one or more rock songs. Therefore I definitely believe what ARgent said: "God gave Rock 'n Roll". Here is 2 songs and 2 stories to prove it.
Shout - Tears for Fears : It is very interesting that the name Tears for Fears refers to primal scream therapy. Therefore the song "Shout" is very suitable. It is all about getting rid of all your anger and frustrations by just shouting them out. Don't ignore them.
In 1992 I was driving back from an Anthropology seminar in Cape Town and picked up a hitch hiker. He said he was on his way to Johannesburg to go and visit his brother. I had cd compilations of my favourite songs in the car. About 400km from Cape Town the guy (His name was Toney Fernandez) started to scream just after Shout played. He told me that he was not going to his brother - but going to commit suicide in Johannesburg. At his work he was moved to an office where he did not see people and it made him so depressed that he could not think straight. That morning he left home for office and took the road. I stopped and we spoke. Fortunately there was a bus going back to Cape Town and after calling his worried wife, he went back to Cape Town.
His whole life changed. He got his old job back, they had children and lived happily ever after.
Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if Shout did not play. One song changed his life.
