Anyone for Scritti Politti? Just got into them!!!

SP does not bug me; I like them (him) okay. [i]Loved[/i] Cupid & Psyche[/i] so much when it came out.
It was only a few years ago, on this site, that I even knew that earlier Scritti music existed...and wow! That "Skank Bloc Bologna" stuff is really weird and cool! That was some trippy stuff that definitely fits the meaning of obscure. Anyway, I enjoy old Scritti.

It gets freakier--Miles covered "A Perfect Way" on his last album...

Count me in with the Scritti faithful...as an English Lit ABD, I have to appreciate "Jacques Derrida"...

From what I have grafted from interviews, net analysis, and pre song radio banter, Scritti was very much 'tongue in cheek' and painfully measured with their (his) use of lyrics. He (Green Gartside) wanted to make an album (and I'm paraphrasing here) that paid tribute to pops cliched vocabulary, thus much use of the word "baby" etc. When you glance at C&P you will notice some pretty obvious juxtaposition of obscure literary reference and banal lyrical cake walk.

Cool! Glad I'm not alone here. There's a Scritti Politti fan site: http://bibbly-o-tek.com that has TONS of rare audio downloads. Some verry cool stuff. I like the early Gang Of Four-in-diapers period. The Songs To Rememeber album (1982) has "The Sweetest Girl", "Jacques Derrida", "Faithless" and the very catchy "Asylums In Jerusalem". A gret album. I love C&P85 but find myself going back to Songs To Remember more often. C&P85 has nine tracks - five of which were (hit) singles. That's more than half of the album! This does not happen anymore. I do like A&B (1999), Provision (1988) and White Bread, Black Beer (2006) but those first few releases I find pretty compelling. I'm glad I re-discovered them.
