What We Looked Like - then vs. now

Postby phillyidol » Sun Jul 18, 2004 11:38 am

This should be fun!I love seeing what our favorite bands look like now. Some got fat, bald, or both! But what about us?

I'll start us out. Back in the early 80's I had the typical new wave haircut for guys. That sort of new wave mullet, you know, longer in the back and gel on the sides. And I had this great black dress jacket with electric blue cuffs on the arms. Then I became one of the lost boys from the mid to late 80's. I grew my hair long, traded my sneakers for doc martins, and I always had on this black over coat. I admit, I stole that look from the movie the lost boys. Hell, it worked!

Now, thank God, I still have a look. I did not fall apart like I thought people do when they get older. I did not get fat, I have short spiked hair and a goatee. I still miss the lost boys look but it does not look good on a 40 year old man with 2 daughters.

Lets hear some looks! Don't be scared, we are all freinds![:I]

Just black from head to toe. God fobid we got any color during the summer time. Remember the shirts buttoned to the top with a stylish bollo in lieu of a tie? I never had a mullet but in the late 80's I let my hair grown so I could grow a pony tail. A

Let's see, in a word- BLACK.
I went from skinny leather ties, suspenders & zipper pants, to all black clothing. Black leather jackets, long black trenchcoats, Doc Marten boots, black t-shirts & pants, etc.
My hair has always been long in front, cut short

I went from Punk 81-83 to New Romantic 83-86 back in the day. Around the second half of 1986 every thing was turning black and all the beautiful new wave colors went away[:(] I call it the satanic winter of 86' and Goth was on it's way in. (I really Like

I got fat and lost enough hair where I can't do anything cool with it.
Still wearing jeans and t-shirts, though... when I wear skinny ties now I get called "Drew Carry".

Ha-ha, good question!

Back in the new wave days, I dressed more punk. I had bleach blonde hair with black roots, lots of eye make-up. (If anyone has the book "High on Rebellion" I'm on page 257 hanging with Cheetah Chrome).

Today I still wear cool c

I would very much like to post old pix of myself and see yours, as well--when school starts back up next month ( I am a teacher), I'll have access to a scanner, so maybe the

After I started working at a college radio station-I cultivated a kind of "paisley undergound" look-I was way into the psych and garage music of the time-my hair was short and spiky and I dyed it auburn-it's naturally brown-when the roots came in it looke

1983-84: Like all teens before us, we had to rebel against our parents (aging suburban hippies or overly tanned moms who wore tennis dresses all year long) and our peers (early-mid Reagan-era preppies), and we fought back by DRESSING UP, at least when we

Well, the first time 'round (lol) I was young. REALLY young. First came the rat tail. I think my mom relented and allowed me to have it professionally dyed, after she caught me trying to bleach my rat tail with Clorox. I remember begging my mom for bl

Bald - getting there

Fat - getting there but hoping to reverse

Dress New Wave - as much as I can without getting beaten up

Hair Style - shaved short throughout, really wish I can do the old
New Romantic cuts that I wore in the 80's.

Music -
