I love The The's "Uncertain Smile" but I prefer THIS particular version released from the Soul Mining album:

On New Order, I like their Subculture (12"?) on Substance more than their version in Lowlife.

I hate the John Robie versions of Sub-Culture. Too disco-y. (BLT is another where I really prefer the album version over the remix).

I like a certain version of Confusion By New Order I Hate the version on the Singles album, its not the one i grew up with (hee hee)

Always have prefered the Soul Mining version, even though the 45RPM one probably feels more "New Wavish"

It's really like two totally different songs. The remix is a little overdone IMHO, and I wish there could be a (happy-medium mix).

Yeah, I agree...the original "Confusion" was MUCH better. When it got redone for "Blade" (or one of those Matrix-style vampire movies), it sounded totally different and not to my liking.

I recently found a longer 12" disco mix of Angel Eyes as well.

Rachel Sweet's Who Does Lisa Like - US & UK Versions.

Blondie's Atomic - the album version and a single version that takes out the breakdown in the middle.

Also Heart of Glass had a few incarnations - the original album version with the "pain in the ass" line, the censored version for the radio, a 12", an instrumental, a greatest hits version, new remixes ad nauseum, and I recently stumbled across a 10 minute re-edit of the original.

Also, another version of "Heart of Glass" called "Once I Had a Love", kind of an earlier, silkier, Calypso-flavoured version. Tres sexy !!

There were a few versions of songs where the band did one version when they were independent, and then when they got the major label contract, they recorded another. Case to wit:

The B-52's: "Rock Lobster"
Combo Audio: "Romanticide"
Pet Shop Boys: "West End Girls"
