"The New Cars"

Postby SubMassCon » Thu Jan 26, 2006 4:37 am

Any opinions on Elliot Easton and Greg Hawkes going out on the road as "The New Cars" with Todd Rundgren on lead vocals and Todd's Utopia partner Kasim Sulton on bass? Prairie Prince from the Tubes is rounding out the band on drums. You can hear a snippet of a new tune here: http://www.myspace.com/carsofficial

I was leery of a Cars reunion without the late Benjamin Orr. But without Orr and Ocasek...

As I suspected, Todd Rundgren sounds a lot like Ric and the new tune has the late 80's Cars sound -- too bad it sound like a damn Budweiser commercial poised and ready for Super Bowl Sunday![V]

Back in the day I was the biggest Cars fan so I wasn't exactly looking forward to this.

However I am ashamed to say that my nipples got erect listening to the clip.

I apologize for putting that image into your heads but damn I have to be honest, no?

Damn, if that's the best they could do then they should have left it alone. Much as I'd love it if The (real) Cars were still with us it's time to face reality- ain't gonna happen.

Of course they'll probably make money with this shameless, "Weekend At Bernies" attempt to revive a long dead corpse of a band. And that will just encourage them.

I can see it now- the megaconcert of the century. Jefferson Starship, The Beach Boys and The (new) Cars. If this is what the future holds, Kill Me Now!

Now let's get on to something of more import like that rumored Wham! reunion.

There is money to be made from all this geezer reunion rock.Aging babyboomers want to kick out the jams once again, and if it,s a reasonable effort with a certain percentage of original members the
people will show up.

I've got a better idea. Let's put together a group consisting of Danny Bonaduce, Leif Garret (after he gets out of jail), Shawn Cassidy and Christopher Knight.

We'll call them The New Sex Pistols!

I just saw Ric's new CD at Tower. It was priced at $19!!!! It will probably be $3 at the used CD store next week. And, I still won't buy it.

There is something to be said for synergy.

I can't believe I'm going to say this, and at the risk of being unpopular (gasp),.....I don't mind that song clip.

Is this a sign of the current state of popular music or my waning sense of good taste?

saw them on the tonight show a few weeks ago. it was interesting..music sounded the same, vocals a little different.

they are going on tour with Blondie this summer...any idea who the headliner is? i may be interested in seeing them if they are the appetizer, but definitely not as the main course.
